Chatter upon engagement of gears 2,3,4
Problems:
1) Gearbox chatter as I shift from 1 -> 2 (as in the movement of gear knob from 1 to 2 clutch in, I get a chatter sound emanating from the gearbox) 2) Gearbox chatter as I engage gears 2, 3, 4 at approx 3000 - 4000 rpm. - Problem occurs during upshift & downshift Relevant info(?) - 3400 km on odometer - Jan delivery - Took it to the Subaru Service Center. They say it's still bedding in and have filed a technical report about the issue. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how was the problem fixed? |
There is a TSB for gearbox chatter....i saw it in the TSB section
|
Just checked the TSB/Recall Sticky, no mention of gearbox chatter.
Went to the List of Problems Sticky and found the Sychros thread which seems relevant. There isn't a TSB as such but a change in fluid as some guys here suggest. From what I have read, it's worked for some and not for others.....still a gremlin if you ask me. This post says it's normal: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=25 This thread suggests that trans fluid needs to be changes: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16604 This post states that GL-4 oil can cause reliability issues due to additional additives compared to GL-3 oil: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=50 This post suggests that the problem goes away after 10k miles: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=156 There is no single solution people agree upon. |
The TSB you are looking for is a Toyota TSB
|
Noticed chatter a lot especially when I'm slowing down to a stop. Usually in free right before I stop completely, and that's when it happens.
|
Stupid question but is the Toyota TSB applicable to the BRZ? I noticed separate TSB for Subaru and Toyota regarding tail light condensation
