Changing order, does it require a new order?

I swear I saw a thread on this but couldn't find it... I originaly ordered a SWP Premium BRZ and I am #2 on the list at this particular dealership, but even then flip-flopped between SWP/DGM and also between the Premium and Limited. Well at this point I want to change the order to a DGM Limited :) but I would like to retain my place in line so to speak. I've contacted the dealer and they were not sure what would happen... whether it would need to be a new order which may have a later allocation or not. So I figured I'd check on here since I'm sure others have inquired and maybe have received actual answers.

I'm not sure it'll affect anything yet considering the fact that they can't even place orders for the car at this point.

I was told that if I wanted to change my order that they would have to cancel my order and then re-order with my new choice, this would effect the allocation spot at the regional level.

Oh? How is it that I got an email directly from SoA with an order number on it?

Lol, well there you go, question answered.

The dealers I went to wouldn't put in orders, they only took deposits or started wait lists. I'm just curious about how some dealers can go about ordering cars without pricing, discussing accessories, etc.

My dealer did go over accessories with me, still no price, but all my options (color, trim, accessories) were checked off. The only accessory unable to be installed at first is the subwoofer, which I'll add at a later date.

That is correct. I did this and that's what happened. I was also told though that it didn't matter too much if you got a color no one else was getting. The #1 guy could have ordered a wrb limited and your dgm limited was let's say #7, it's possible yours comes in first because they don't have control of which one they get first.

Hmmm...I know we have an official pre-ordered thread and all but it's still not clicking with me.

Let's see if I can go talk to Lucy and get some 'splainin out of her.

This is the exact info my dealer gave me as well when asking about changing colors.

Thanks for the info guys, I kind of figured that would be the case. Guess I'll have to be prepared to wait a little while longer perhaps to get what I want.

I agree that ordering a car without pricing is irrational, however in most situations portrayed in the BRZ pre-order thread it seems people have refundable or "pending test drive and pricing" stipulations to their pre-order. That's certainly my situation, otherwise I would've told the dealership to take a hike. The deposit in-effect lets me choose my color & trim and hold my place in line without committing to purchase unless I'm pleased with all parameters of the sale.

-->to the OP: I would deduce that you'll have to place a new order. It's entirely likely that your car is already built, or in the queue and it's not changeable anymore. With any luck your dealership can see if your configuration is compatible with another Pre-Orderer, and you could swap allocation spots with them and only incur a small time delay.

sounds like a question for the dealer
