Anyways, back on topic, I use lexol leather conditioner to maintain the quality of the leather. Just spray a bit on a cloth and wipe down all the leather components of the car. I highly recommend it. I got the 16.8oz bottle from Walmart, can't go wrong.

Lexol is the item. My local internationally known motorcycle seat builder says to use it. Respect his Authoritay!

Great, just noticed yesterday that my driver seat has a small dime sized patch that is faded. Car is barely 2 months old. I'm pretty careful with getting in and out of the car, so I have no idea how it could be wearing down already. Thinking about talking to the dealership. Has anyone gone that route?

There are A LOT of unsatisfied GT86 owners in the UK with premature seat wearing on the bolsters on the leather/alcantara option. My own issue, like many others, has been with peeling leather and heavy cracking around the seat bolster.

I have been pursuing this with Toyota UK Customer Services under a warranty claim unsuccessfully. At first they said it was fair wear and tear (less than 3 years old with 15,000 miles) and now they have changed their stance and said its damage.

This was the latest response.

I was sorry to read your comments and apologise for the disappointment caused.
I can confirm that, unfortunately, we have been unable to approve replacement of the drivers seat bolster as there is no evidence of a manufacturing defect. I should explain we consider the problem on the leather cover to have been caused by damage, rather than because of fair wear and tear. I appreciate you consider this to be a manufacturing defect and understand this explanation of why we have declined to replace the bolster under the terms of the manufacturers warranty is perhaps semantics and not especially helpful.
I very much regret the frustration caused by our decision. I am sorry we are unable to respond in a more positive manner and I realise our response will come as a further disappointment to you. For this I can only apologise.

This is why I bought the base FR-S.

I saved a little money on the car itself then did my own thing, exactly the way I wanted. I detest cloth but wasn't impressed by the leather/Alcantara combo in the BRZ. Went with KATZKINS semi-custom seat covers instead, which are made-to-order in California. Lead time was just two weeks. I use GRIOT'S GARAGE 3-in-1 leather conditioner about once each month. Front seats are heated. They say that leather is on it's way out, but I think that's mainly due to people getting lazier. Real leather NEEDS to be conditioned regularly-it's just skin after all. If you can't be bothered to maintain your leather then Alcantara and Vinyl are definitely the better way to go. If you want that leather smell though, I would recommend KATZKINS with no hesitation. The leather is pretty thick, the stitching is durable and it can be ordered in whatever color scheme floats your boat...

No. I didn't install them myself. I wanted heated fronts and I didn't want to fuss with locating switches or troubleshooting airbags so I dropped the car at my local Toyota dealer for two days. They sent the car to The Leather Company in Everett WA-they did the install. My Toyota dealer gave me a loaner to drive in the meantime-a really anemic little Corolla S with zero-feedback steering. I was so happy to get my little car back. :)

Your seats are about on par with the quality of my front/rear reupholstery job. Mine are matched to stock tho :D

Yeah might had a slight spot on it pretty early in it's life too. Leather will crack overtime and lose some of the dye :(

Oil leather! Will crack but not rip.

My 2016 with 6,000 miles is beginning to wear on the seat back from my belt rubbing it when I get in and out of the car. I make sure to recline the seat a little before I get out. That seems to have helped. Thinking about asking the dealership to warranty it even though it's not too noticeable yet.
