GoPro 3 or iphone 4S Audio Recording
I'm trying to an exhaust review, I will be recording some videos to show exhaust note, drive bys, etc.
I have both a GoPro 3 white edition and iPhone 4S. Which device should I use to get the most realistic and honest sound compare to real life? |
Use both.

I feel the GoPro does a decent job with sound.

I'd say use both. It would be interesting to hear the same exhaust on the same car from 2 different devices.

put iphone in trunk and use the headphones and tape the mic next to the exhaust :bellyroll:

Wow, the new GoPros must have heavily improved on their audio capabilities. I have three Hero 2's, and they completely suck at recording audio. They have mic inputs which I figured I'd use if I ever cared much about audio.

Why not :)?

For me go-pro capture has good video but lack in audio. They couldn't fix the damn thing in 3 generations of the gopro.

hmmm.......here is a GoPro recording .... the sounds are the sounds inside the cabin of a dash mounted GoPro. Exhaust is stock.

The GP3 audio is vastly improved over the GP2, I have a 2 and the 3 silver and the difference is night and day. The 2 built in audio is near useless and sounds like you're in a trash can. The 3 is almost normal and while not awesome is usable. I have an iPhone but haven't used it for much video & audio recording.
If you were going for a really accurate comparison, it be better to get a dedicated device. The GP and I'm pretty sure the iPhone has auto gain so it automatically adjusts the sound level so you wont get accurate comparison between two different setups as it'll automatically make adjustments out of your control. |
