Went catless. Sound like a fat can now :(

So I got the American thunder cat-back. I was impressed with the sound and TQ gain. It sounded so beefy! So I went ahead thinking if I would got catless I would sound even better. So I went and bought a DC pipe. Turns out it sounds like a fat can at high revs at low revs it sounds more beefy.

Got this clip of YouTube but sounds exactly like it.

I don't think you car catless.. You still have a cat in the header

Sing4LTS 07-31-2013 11:23 AM

I have the same exhaust and setup. Same thing happened to me. It was amazing at first, until I added the overpipe/catless frontpipe combo. I'll be adding a 12" bullit in the midpipe in the next few weeks. I'll let you know how effective it is in cleaning up the rasp.

Need at least a catted front pipe or resonated front pipe to keep the rasp down. That or a resonated system, but that adds cost.

My ears are bleeding.

My ears are bleeding after listening to that video...not because of the sound of the exhaust, but because of the outrageously awful audio quality.

Catless headers are fine, catless front pipes along with it are not unless you have a beefy resonator and muffler. Otherwise with a catted front pipe, you may experience a little rasp with no resonator and a muffler. Cat + resonator + muffler usually makes it not raspy (pending how good the resonator in the midpipe is) and still keeps it relatively loud because of the header.

I have a muffler delete, and I gutted the cat on my front pipe. Keeping all the resonators, it really just opened the sound up. Sounds really good now to me.

How do you find that cold start up volume and tone even remotely acceptable??

ChinoAnthrax 07-31-2013 12:33 PM

I notice less low end torque. But it gain good high rev power. U can feel the push after 3k rpm

ChinoAnthrax 07-31-2013 12:36 PM

I like the cold start sound sounds deep like the Allstate spokes person but once u rev it just ugh my ears.

+1. Dude no one will be able to figure out what your car actually sounds like with that clip. In any case I am sure you are exaggerating. Mufler deleted FRS / BRZ's sound good.
