Questions about turboing my FR-S

To start off I'm already in the process of purchasing a GReddy tuner turbokit , BOV, evo3 catback exhaust, map sensors, EcuTek when the time comes, and of course gauges.

The only questions I really have are:

Clutch
What is the limit to the stock clutch? I'm going to be making around 290-300 whp without changing pump/injectors (later project) what's a good clutch that I should look into? I noticed that clutches are rated for torque not whp though. So I thought the torque would be about the same numbers.

Fuel injectors/pump
. Has anyone had to do anything about this yet? GReddy and AVO said they did their testing on stock pump/injectors and was still making +93 whp (GReddy) +50-70 whp (AVO) with just turbo and exhaust added. Should I think about updating them aswell?

And this isn't really a question, but I've done a lot of research on the compression and I'm looking for personal opinions on this. For smaller turbos high compression is good for less turbo lag and more power through out, but 12.5:1 is ridiculously high nonetheless. Anyone got some good input on that?

if i remember correctly, the clutch will handle 220-225lb/ft, but i'm not 100% certain on this. sorry i don't know the answers to the rest. I'll be hanging out with my friend tonight, and he should be able to answer though. I'll have him post under my name, if he does.

I used my stock clutch at 7 psi on a gtx2867r for a while and it was starting to slip a little after about a month of driving. I'd definitely plan to buy a clutch. You should get injectors and a pump as well for the power you want.

12.5:1 is pretty high for a turbocharged car, but the direct injection and decent combustion chamber design help with detonation resistance. It's in the process of proving itself pretty well in my opinion.

You shouldn't be looking at WHP to determine when you need a clutch, you need to look at torque. The stock clutch on a brand-new car will start slipping from 230ft/lbs, and on a car that has 10~20,000 miles, I've seen it start slipping at 220ft/lbs.

We started running out of fuel pump/injector at 275-280whp - about +120 whp from the stock baseline. We've pushed it higher (300whp+) on the stock injectors with an upgraded fuel pump.

Thanks for the input gents! Looking into clutches now.. oh joy lol. I should only be sitting at/near 280 whp once I'm done. probably get injectors a little while after

pumps I mean, not injects

Are ACT heavy duty clutches any good?

Id recommend the FX300, alot of good reviews on it from several members. Theres a thread I made on here just search "clutch input"

I smell burning clutch every time I dyno the car and it is at 181 ft lbs. I do not do dyno pulls in 5th gear anymore...

Sometimes I smell it when doing pulls on the street.

I don't expect this stock clutch to last very long. Maybe another 15-20,000 miles tops.

Oh sweet jesus. I'm fucked then. Might as well buy the clutch before the turbo comes in.. Turbo is suppose to up me towards 240-250 wtq after other bolt ons..

Sent you a PM

You'll be fine on the stock clutch at 250ish whp. That's probably around 200lbft or less.

Yeah I've got an ACT 6puck but with the pro lite flywheel... Clutch is great can't fault it, it's just the lack of weight in the flywheel which is my only gripe.. If I had my time over I'd get the street lite. The pro lite just robs way too much RPMs when taking off for my liking, it sounds like your a hoon or you can't drive lol need a few revs to take off

Edit: also my tuner is whining about it on the dyno being hard to drive lol
