I remember how much I used to hate the look. And it all changed the moment I saw it with a license plate. Now I'm rather attached to the look.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of mods people come up with though to pretty it up.

the the stache serve a purpose?

i like the rendering above, so just cutting it off with a dremel, may be an option.

I plan on getting one of the darker colors; that DGM looks nice.

However, I have this urge to get that cover painted white, to look like a huge smile with teeth showing.

Yes it does.

Behind it is a giant chunk of foam and then the actual metal bumper.

You have to find some way to hide that stuff if you cut off the stache.

The foam is the absorber and behind that is the front reinforcement, or the real bumper. The foam helps absorb the impact during accident, but also stops rattle. So if u cut it, save some just in case....a tuck here, a tuck there... Does wonders noise.

after accidents, some people don't replace the foam. But say someone backs up into the front, without the foam there is more chance of cracking the bumper cover.

Actually that's perfect for leaving the plate off, and doing a "quick install" for fixit tickets

Front plates are required here, but I'm taking my chances - leaving them off.

WolfpackS2k 04-13-2012 10:11 AM

There is no way that a mass produced car on an automated production line has to have a section of the vehicle TAPED OFF to prevent paint overspray. Not a chance.

Also just about every southern state in the US has no front plate requirement. So that's a lot of people that don't have to worry about some crappy metal rectangle messing up the front of the car.

Why do all my subarus have maskng lines then? And im talking my NEW subarus. Alof of the time painted parts are painted elsewhere..especially "trim" pieces a bumper can fall under that category. I wouldnt be suprised if the bumper isnt even painted on the assembly line
