Why I am happy I went with the FR-S over the BRZ
As some of you know a Toyota rep came out and drove my car to check on my grinding into 4th gear. Well, in the first minute of the test, he says "Damn that exhaust sounds awesome! What the hell is it?" I proceed to tell him I have the FT86Speedfactory catback, Invidia catted frontpipe, and Perrin overpipe. His response (remember he is a rep for Toyota who deals with warranty work and figuring out if warranties are voided) went like this. "I drove an FR-S with a TRD exhaust and it was quiet and I hated the sound. This sounds 10 times better. I love it!"
If you don't know why I'm referencing the BRZ vs. FR-S debate, take a look at this thread and see what a Subaru dealer did about warranty work. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42138 This isn't the first time I've heard of Subaru giving people crap for aftermarket stuff. It just made me happy that a man who decides what action to take with warranty work supported my aftermarket exhaust and enjoyed it like I do. You should've seen his face when he mashed the gas in 2nd. Smile from ear to ear. :D:happyanim::party0030::burnrubber::thumbup: |
One example of a bad subaru dealer is sort of like eating a burnt chocolate chip cookie. It tastes like crap and you decide to never eat a chocolate chip cookie again. You just end up missing out on something that is delicious and awesome most of the time.

It really depends on the Subaru.
Livermore Subaru here did warranty work for a guy's BRZ that has a turbo. No questions asked. Technically the only reason Subaru could deny warranty work is only if they can prove the said modification is the cause of the issue. And there are tons of crazy modified WRX's that get warranty work done all the time. As for Diablo Subaru, it's just more of a case of a sour dealer. |
I'm so glad I went with an FR-S over the BRZ, but this is sort of pointless.
There are numerous counts of Toyota/Scion dealerships giving owners crap about their aftermarket stuff even if the things were unrelated to the problem itself. I can't remember what it was exactly, but someone on here had a problem with their FR-S and Scion wouldn't cover it under warranty because of some unrelated aftermarket part he had on his car, and went to a Subaru dealership who took care of his FR-S under warranty. |

So far my dealer has been very receptive of issues, but we will see what happens if something major happens to the car. |
Same car and while I recognize the origination of car which didnt matter, I went to Toyota versus Subaru cause I have much more "close" Toyota dealers then the one Subaru dealer. Which was firmly stating before purchase their opinion on aftermarket parts with attitude while the Toyota dealership had tons of aftermarket stuff on the floor so decision was easy really.

The Subaru service guys will buddy up to you and get you to talk about the things you've done to your car too. The more you tell them, the more ammunition they have should they decide they want to decline a claim

I dont see why any exhaust upgrade would void a warranty anyways..maybe internal engine mods and engine management..but basic bolt ons my dealer said wasnt an issue at all :iono:

Although, if something goes wrong with the exhaust itself, the dealership can deny warranty FOR THE EXHAUST and you'd have to contact the manufacturer of the exhaust to get covered under warranty, or whoever installed the exhaust for you. |
