HSD HR Quick Review

Hey guys, I have been using the HSD HR "Sport" coilover system for a couple months now and wanted to give some quick review. I have used the car as a street car, in some light auto-x, light drifting as well. HSD HR's are made by HD Systems in Korea. They look like Stance coilovers for a reason, but are made to a completely different spec. They are built well and seem to be of better material / strength than what I have seen from BC Racing. Anyways .. these are a 6k/6k spring setup. I have ran them with a square 18x9.5 setup first with 235/40/18 Achilles ATR Sports (cheap but decent .. sidewall leaves a lot to be desired) and recently with 255/35/18 Cooper RS3's which were a vast improvement and a great street tire. I initially ran the coilovers at 8 clicks front and back. They were soft. I increased that figure to 11 front 9 rear. The front feels reasonably fantastic however it seems like perhaps the 6k rate is completely inappropriate for the rear of this car. It seems OK for street driving however any aggressive driving / track use. I am going to try maxing out the damper (16 clicks) to see what sort of effect I get. The fit / finish of the coilovers is good. Nothing special like RS*R Sport-i's. Install was straightforward other than the camber plates being reversed which was confusing as they shipped that way. All in all I don't know if you can do much better for the money however the softness of the rear is a little frustrating. I think 6/8 or even 8/8 would work much better. I have Cusco LCA's in the back as well as a Cusco rear-member support (sub-frame) and also a Cusco differential brace. These items contribute greatly to the rear end's feel but I still want to try a different rear spring. |
