Best tires for the stock wheels?
Note: I have very little knowledge about wheels and tires.
I like the stock wheels. What would be the best daily tires to put on them? Can I put wider tires on them to enhance traction and grip? Also, please give an estimated price as I don't want to break the bank. -Sent from outer space |
I run 225/45r17 Dunlop Z1 StarSpecs on a set of stock wheels for autox. They fit with no problems.
I probably wouldn't run anything wider than 225 on the stock wheels personally. |

"best tire" will entirely depend on your definition of "breaking the bank"... you can find any tire on Tire Rack for comparison purposes.
Frankly, anything will be better than what came stock on the car. As for what is good or not, that's entirely subjective. Sizes, stick with factory size if you want a good balance of mileage/performance. Go up to 225/45-17 if you want more meat. -alex |
z1 star specs are being phased out.
i run re070's and like them a lot. i cant comment on z1's, rs-3's, or rivals. Theyre all around $650 shipped before mounting |
I have ordered Yokohama AD08R in 225/45R17 for the stock wheels, I'll let you know what I think about it

The tires mentioned above are all very good tires, but I wouldn't use any of these on my car due to their weight alone. In P225/45-17 these tires weigh:
Dunlop Z1 StarSpecs = 27 pounds each Bridgestone RE070 = 27 pounds each Michelin pilot super sports = 22 pounds each Yokohama AD08R = 24 pounds each The stock 205/45-17 Primacy are 20 pounds per tire. The Dunlop Sport Maxx R weigh 18 pounds each and Continental Extremecontact DW are 20 pounds each. Both are well suited to the car. |

So I bought 225/40R18 when I changed my wheels. These tires are great. I highly recommend them. |

To each their own, but this review killed the thought of the maxx rt's instantly for me Quote:

I anticipate 0% track use in my future. The rest of the review (flat spotting overnight) just reeks of BS.

Best to stick to a known good tire if you want excellent performance. |
