I'm considering just the 26th. I've heard the hotel/accommodations are top notch like a country club. 2 days will typically require a pad chance (I do have an extra set in my garage).

I'm also very much considering this. Gotta check the calendar. What run group is everyone in?

What pads are you running?

I've run Carbotech XP8's at VIR (in my old ITR) for at least 3-4 full weekends and quite a bit of (noisy) street use. I can't imagine going through a set of pads in a day, then again VIR is pretty easy on brakes in my experience. Really only 2-3 big braking zones (and the one in Roller Coaster is helped quite a bit by a pretty steep hill and gravity), plenty of cool-down time in the straights.

I have a Wilwood race compound up front and carbotech xp-10s in the rear. It's more the back to back if you're hard on them. My pads are all new so I should be fine. (Also running RBF 600 now). I've never ran VIR so I'm not familiar with the breaking zones, I just know there's a lot of open/straights.

@xjohnx is that E85 in Petersburg any good? I don't know how to get enough down there and want to run E85 on the track.

I haven't tested the one in petersburg, but the one a few miles down the road in colonial heights/chester is run by the same company and actually tested closer to E90 for me.

As for VIR, i wouldn't think twice about your pads. It's surprisingly easy on them, IMO.

This iRacing video of VIR is surprisingly accurate, gives you a good feel for the elevation changes, especially the hill in the braking zone at the end of the back straight. it also makes me want to try iracing now. dammit.

iracing will have support for http://www.oculusvr.com/ pretty soon, I may never leave my house again.

No, but I am going to try out this unofficial method when I get my Oculus Rift (supposed to ship this month finally),

They supposedly have fixed some of the head track sync issues in the latest build of OpenTrack when used with iracing

If you happen to have a spare $60k laying around grab one of these http://www.roadtovr.com/2013/07/08/o...tor-video-6957 :bonk:

Am I missing anything locally? I'm trying to find a weekend to get out to the track.

I should be at all the TrackDaze events. Also, for the August VIR event I'm looking for people to split hotel costs with. I usually just camp out in a tent, but I'm thinking its going to be quite hot in southern Virginia during August. It'd be cool to stay in the VIR facilities, but I'm thinking that's going to be a bit expensive. If I can get the cost for a night down to $30-50 by splitting with 2-4 people I think it'd be worth it. I blew all my money on suspension, so I gotta be a cheapskate.

As for other events that you are missing, the Mid-Atlantic region for NASA has events at both Summit Point and VIR as well. See http://www.nasaracing.net/?page_id=13
I might start doing some NASA events next year as I want to get into doing some time trialing but I'm sticking with TrackDaze for this year while I learn the ropes.

i know years ago (before VIR had built their onsite lodging) all the ITR guys would stay at the innkeeper.

then again, those guys also thought PBR was the nectar of the gods.
