Help Us find a location for the next big meet -- Norcal

Whatsup norcal! Do you want the next meet on your city/area?

Help us find/scout the perfect venue for the next big meet drive and bbq.

Here are some criterias that needs to be met when making a suggestion:

1. Big enough parking space for up to 100 cars.
2. Large BBQ pits and near the parking lot
3. Shaded picnic area
4. Accessible to scenic routes/roads

If you live close by a park and want to make a suggestion please post photos of the parking lot, bbq pits, amd picnic grounds.

I will then choose the top 3 parks and post a poll for everyone to vote on.

As for the date, august seems to be fullybooked with events and meets already so shooting for first week of september.

Uvas Reservoir- 14946 Uvas Road, Morgan Hill, United States
Don't know how to post the Google map and too lazy to do a screenshot. I count 69 drawn parking spaces give or take. The lines are not drawn for the most efficient parking, so many more cars will fit if you stack them. There is a picnic area at the Northwest end of the parking lot, under the trees. There is a big ass lake for pretty pictures. The nearby road is fun and predictable.

Here is a route that I went on a couple years ago that goes right by the reservoir. The pie and apple juice is awesome at Gizditch Ranch, Watsonville. Parking for 100 cars is a lot tougher there, though... Very scenic ride.

Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area. There is a Bay Area Subaru meet called BAM happening next month. And im assuming can support a big turn out. Since BAM is usually a couple hundred car event.

What about any of the past suggestions? Too lazy to look for the old thread, but I vaguely remember Alameda Naval Base and Joseph D. Grant (by Mt. Ham).

I think there's a spot in Treasure Island, plenty of space and parking. Not sure what its like lately, but I use to go to RSX meets back in the day.

TI is good but very small picnic grounds and only 50 car capacity

finch1750 07-23-2013 11:54 PM

Alameda also charges a ton if I remember right. What about Tahoe? Lol

finch1750 07-25-2013 02:16 AM

What about something in the Napa/Vacaville area? I'm not familiar with it but there are a ton of regional parks on the map and lots of crooked roads. Anyone from that area have some input?

I'd like to do one in the South Bay before going way the hell up there.

The Suisun City Marina is nice. It's right on the waterfront, near plenty of restaurants, and has a good amount of parking!

Norcalmav23 07-25-2013 02:35 AM

Vasona would be awesome

I am too busy for 86fest thats why i was asking help from people to scout a location.

Looks like nobody has really posted photos.

sdlynx 08-04-2013 08:01 PM

I'd offer suggestions, but based on previous posts, any of my suggestions would be shot down by the bay area majority. Too far for them. I'm not really trying to be snide, it's just true. I know its a long drive for me to make it to the bay area meets, but I try when I can.

I'll get pictures up of Henderson Park and Lake Yosemite, but it's quite a drive (2.5 - 3 hours) to get here from there.

sdlynx 08-04-2013 08:10 PM

Henderson Park, Snelling, CA:

Large parking area, covered eating area with large BBQ pit. Merced River if tubing is of interest.

This one is nearest to Hornitos Rd. Not super curvy, but beautiful foothills area.

Lake Yosemite (Rotary Cove):

HUGE parking lot. They have had many auto events here in the past:

Nice, large BBQ pit:

Nice eating area:

It even has a small kitchen:

I haven't checked out Horseshoe Bend or McClure Bagby. Both of those are right near the HWY 49 route. I drive right by them both if on that drive. I've just never stopped there yet.

86_ZN6 08-05-2013 01:24 AM

tom, Lake Yosemite looks awesone. i love the setup

but damn 3 hours? :(

we will have to see how many members are willing to drive to merced

Kind of off topic, but if Norcal decides not to use either of these locations because they are to far we could probably use some for Cen cal whenever we get enough people to do a big meet lol. They look like cool spots! :thanks:

PMok 08-05-2013 02:00 AM

I might be the exception to the rule but I'd be willing to drive out somewhere far for a big meet/BBQ. Hell we drove all the way out to Las Vegas for 86EXPO and all we got was some free subway sandwiches LOL. J/K, I know Vegas is a draw in and of itself. And it was awesome times at 86EXPO. :)

I am kind of at a loss for location suggestions. To be honest I really liked Lake Del Valle as a spot. But I recognize the the cliche of having it there again. The Port of Oakland spot we've seen and have pics of and is really nice spot but as noted before, it is kind of far away from the parking lot which is not as conducive to a car meet gathering.

Symmetrical 08-05-2013 02:06 AM

Would there be any chance of having it at a race track? Say, Sonoma Raceway? Or is it too much to do that?

Norkoastal 08-05-2013 02:09 AM

Hhmmm.. Not too many spots that come to mind in my area outside of Port Costa near the Warehouse or Brentwood (new downtown center).

are you thinking of a track day?? or just inside the raceway?

inside the raceway is easy. WORKS can always host. lol!

but it will be a bring your own bbq type of thing

lol a track day would be nice, but I'm sure would be too costly for everyone.

But yes I actually meant just use it as a meet location. Would also be a nice background for photos.

And hey I'm down for BYOBBQ style :D

Shoot! If we do it at WORKS, I'd better leave behind every ability to purchase things except an envelope of money for food! ...and gas. :bonk:

CamryDS 08-05-2013 12:33 PM

If you guys decide on a place and need an extra grille -- I have a table top shortty charcoal grill that can be offered =D

PMok 08-05-2013 01:30 PM

just thinking out loud but perhaps the BBQ requirement is a major limiter in our locale selection. Could we get away with just a potluck or pre-made food setup? A few big tinfoil trays of fried rice, fried chicken, chow mein and we would be set with minimal cooking/effort? Bring chafing dishes/sterno if you want to get fancy and keep it warm? Then we could have it literally anywhere!

RC51ed 08-05-2013 02:21 PM

Potluck foods at any spot would work for me too. I was thinking of the presidio in sf but no BBQ grills there. Or maybe a beach in Pacifica, plenty of parking but no BBQ grill.

Presidio in SF sounds good if we do potluck. The back drop would be great for pictures. Crissy Field.

Hey, has anyone considered Casa De Fruta? I'm sure a lot of us are familiar with that place. Just an idea...
