Is now the right time to get a FR-S?

So the car has been out for a year, and everyone seems to enjoy this car. Im looking into leasing one, i haven't test drove one yet nor have I gone to the dealership to see the cost, but using the payment calculator it gives me $323 per month with zero down,48mo and 12kmiles per year. I talked to my dad about this and he told me to wait that they might get cheaper around december or to just wait a couple months for a better deal. Should I wait? will they get cheaper?, I only want to pull the trigger cause im afraid they will come out with a higher performing frs and raise the costs, im only able to afford to lease and not buy yet. I'm just looking for the base model, no hids or any of the packages. Thanks in advanced.

imo i dont see the point in leasing a car like this, just because you're going to start modding it probably. Trade in your lancer and put a down payment, and you'll be golden probably.

If you can wait two more months you'll find out what the 2014s offer. I mean, when the 2014s go on sale the 2013s will drop in price...that's pretty much how the market works. There's a chance that the 2014s will have nicer features and cost more but if you were thinking 2013 then it doesn't matter.

You can get $1300 off right now. At least in my area there are 40+ just rotting on the lot. I think if you wait another month you should be able to get a better lease deal or more of a discount.

Yeah, if you wait until the 14's start hitting the lots in a few months you might score a better deal. That said, interest rates are slowly rising so it is kinda a Catch-22.

First and foremost, go test drive the car and then test drive some other cars like Focus ST, Genesis Coupe, Mustang, Mazda Speed3, etc. These cars are a blast, but it cannot hurt to do your homework.

What part of socal are you in? and Yes, looks like I will wait another 2 months or at least up until october. I'm only interested in the fr-s right now, I looked at the mustangs and camaros, genesis but the fr-s is the only one i keep coming back to.

Just don't go test drive right now.

I went to go test drive a BRZ and FR-S (originally also going to test drive a Focus ST and GTI). Got through the BRZ test drive (solid plan to buy either a 2013 or 2014 depending on changes come October/November) and then went to the Scion dealership to look at the orange one they had just for the heck of it and maybe play up the orange color to the Subaru dealer to get some more money off the BRZ Limited. They ended up having just gotten a 10 Series FR-S. It had the three things I wanted from the Limited (push-button start, keyless entry, HIDs) and the dealer valued my car incorrectly ($15k instead of $13.5k, got the price of a Fusion instead of a Focus) and would honor it as long as I didn't leave.

TLDR: My trip to test drive the BRZ and scope it out ended up with the purchase of a 10 Series FR-S.

wow in my area there are no frs/brz's. You still gotta order em at the dealer to have em transported. As soon as they hit the lot they're sold.

I would say to hold off until you are more financially able and can afford the car. Leasing is SUCH a waste of money in most cases (there are a rare few times when it makes sense). If you are stressing worried about getting the payment down enough to buy the car, you can't afford it.

Be patient. The car has ONLY been out a year. Just get yourself set up financially for now so YOU CAN OWN the car in the future and not have your payments OWN YOU.

If it makes you feel better, I've wanted a white GTR since they came out. While I "can afford it", meaning I am more than financially able to make the payments, I "can't afford it", by that I mean pay cash for it. Until then, I stay patient, and set myself up for future ownership.

Thanks for the response guys, the whole forum came together and gave me good advice. Suave, i dont think the car will own me. I just think leasing is a better deal for me so I can switch my cars by the time I graduate college, Im not too into the modding scene that I will be a adding a turbo or supercharger, maybe just bolt ons that can be removed by the time the lease is up.;)

Obviously it's your call. I personally think it will be a mistake, but at the same time, I do remember what it is like to be young and want something so badly that you will do anything for it ;) Mine was an 03 Mustang Cobra.

I do wish you luck in your purchase! Make sure to post pictures.
