Alright guys, what's up? My name's Johnny, i'm 17, and i live in Columbia, South Carolina.

Let me start with a little bit of background...i've been into cars as long as i can remember, just like many of you (i'm guessing). This is mostly in part to my dad having loved them from the time he was my age. His first car was a '72 240Z and his current ride is a 2013 R35 Black Edition GT-R, a fan of Japanese metal to say the least ;)

My infatuation with Japanese imports began roughly 2 years ago, when i realized what had been sitting in my garage for years. My dad's 1986 Rx-7 Sport Model (a one owner car) had been sitting, preserved, for about 10 years and was waiting for me. I learned to drive stick in that car about a year and a half ago and have since then cut my teeth working on it, doing everything in my garage with help from a friend, my dad, and a Haynes manual. I owe everything to that car and i've loved every minute of it (and i continue to!).

However, the time came recently to start considering a different daily driver because of the hellish heat we get in SC during the summers and the fact that i've decided to turn the FC into somewhat of a "racekor" (removing emissions and AC, as well as not having any power steering or ABS to start with).

I looked at a number of potential cars, all with DDing in mind, and ultimately decided on an FR-S. Before anyone says anything about being spoiled, I AM PAYING FOR THIS CAR  So the FC is now the official full-time project that i'll continue to build, while the FR-S will be the lightly modified Daily Driver. I picked it up on Wednesday and am already so stoked on it, i love it!

I've already installed a few parts, with more on the way. Goals for the car are as follows:

Lighten it-cut weight wherever possible

Stiffen it-make an overall more responsive chassis

Keep it CLEAN-in every sense of the word, something that is often missing from all areas of the scene these days

And do small things to make the engine more responsive.

Thanks for your time everyone, stay tuned for updates!

Love me some Brap, I think I will grab another FD this time though. I love the FC lines more but the interior make me hate puppies.

You and your dad sure must like dark gray lol. What's your plans for it?

TylerLieberman 07-19-2013 11:19 PM

Congrats.

I LOVE FCs!!!!!!

Usually I don't like kids who have their cars handed to them, but this kid has a passion. I love the fact that you started off with a FC too, that's where the money is!

Good luck with the build!

my body...isn't ready for whats to come........ i'm keeping a close eye on this thread!

fc3s_johnny 07-19-2013 11:50 PM

Wow guys, thanks for all the kind words already!

I'm truly surprised to find so many people appreciative of the rotary and particularly the FC chassis in this crowd, but i like what i'm seeing! Maybe i'll post some FC progress pics every now and then ;)

As DIM so kindly pointed out something that i forgot to mention...yes, dark gray is our family color so to speak :D

People here tend to like all Japanese cars. My guess is that it's hard to be brand loyal when your car is sold under 3 different names.

I'll take this post to tell you all a little more about the car about the FR-S, since i didn't share any details earlier!

The car is obvious an Asphalt model. I went with the 6-speed manual transmission as i wanted something that would be fun as well as keep me sharp for when it's time to drive the FC on track ;)

I also went with the factory mudguards, as i think they're a pretty subtle addition against the dark grey body, i personally like the look, and most others aren't running them. I went with the standard audio to keep it simple (a theme you'll be seeing throughout the whole build), as well as factory fog lights and rear lip spoiler.

You may have noticed from the first pictures that the lip spoiler isn't on the car...it was something the dealership had to order and it turned out to be back ordered :( The fogs also weren't installed and will be put on when the lip comes in, hopefully sometime this week.

PLANS FOR THE CAR? You'll see more soon, i'll start posting mods tomorrow!

So it's time to begin with some modifications...

First up is a Cusco duracon shift knob. I knew i wanted to change the stock knob up and this seemed like a good option, and one that wasn't unnecessarily expensive. So far i really like it; it doesn't get hot (essential in the 105+ degree situations when i get in the car), it's slightly smaller than stock, the feel is nice, and i think it looks simpler than stock with it's red stitching/silver trim.

Second is the Touge Factory handbrake "spin-turn" knob. I have one of these installed on my FC and love it. For this car it's more about unifying the look of the car rather than getting it sideways, but it may certainly be used for that in the future.

I think the combo looks clean when both are installed and the feel is much better. What do you guys think?

I love my Cusco knob too! At first the weight threw me off, then I felt that much more connected with the car

Oh god I love the japanese violence in this thread.. Kudos to you to drive one of these at 17 years old :)
