Am i crazy to think the 86 does quite well from stop lights to the speed limit of 50-60 km and thats not even fully trying. Just easy launches

It may be easy to get a good dig, but if you're talking about "vs another car" then eh... You might just be lucky. Against a FWD platform, sure, but that's a given for "off the line".

I've had two STi's and an Evo, and launching correctly resulted in downright violent acceleration off the line. The 86's light weight helps, and good balance also helps, but in the grand scheme it's still not a fast car.

It does feel light off the line, which is a good feel. But yea, sometimes I drive when I'm mad and it doesn't take as much throttle as you'd think to get some brisk acceleration.

60kph? That's not even 40mph. No one races until just 40mph. Some cars can do that in 1st gear easily.

It depends on your mindset. In my C6 Z06, anything less than a 120mph spread was a waste of time. In a BRZ, I can easily imagine a little 0-40mph streetlight contest for the exit-ramp up ahead.

Not sure what the C6Z has to do with this, but the point is, no one races until just 40mph and almost everything else is nearly as fast or faster than these cars up to 40mph.

So even if I wanted to get on that exit ramp, as long as the guy next to me is in anything but a mid-90s econobox or a 100hp sub compact, I'm gonna have a tough time.

Almost anything modern should be somewhat quick to 40mph.

i think youre missing the point. Light to light, non drag racing...real world driving 0-40 speed is very applicable. Plus there is quite a bit of discrepancy between cars. for example turbo cars will have lag, high HP car will have trouble putting down all that power until they get grip...etc. all of these things will be most apparent at 0-40.

Yes...you, sir, are nuts lol

No, I understand exactly what the OP is saying. His point is that the 86 is able to 'win' and quickly get to 40mph, which is a typical driving situation on the street.

What I'm saying is, there is no point being made here. There is nothing exceptional about these cars in a straight line. All the things you're saying as a pro for the FRS/BRZ is applicable in something like an Accord too. Even a brainless V6 Camry can mash and go from 0-40 just as fast or faster than these cars.

0-40 is a poor benchmark to measure any sort of performance. Almost every car makes enough power to pull decently to 40. Drag isn't an issue at that speed. Nearly every car will get there in a gear no later than 2nd.

You can replace the GT86/FRS/BRZ with nearly any other modern car and it'd still be an accurate statement.

Then you've missed my point! 2:11 [ame]http://youtu.be/JaS7n6qKQe4[/ame] this will (hopefully) illustrate that cars vary greatly 0-40.
