No shine tire shine?

Hopefully you know what I mean - I use a spray off tire/wheel cleaner and as a finisher I'm looking for something to give a nice clean new tire look without the over-shine from the normal armor-all type stuff.

Looking for something relatively inexpensive that I can pickup at Walmart, auto parts store etc. not looking to buy some random exotic $40 /bottle stuff.

Suggestions?

You want your tires to be black without the gloss, right? Me too. Anyone?

I like to use 303 Aerospace Protectant on my tires. It produces a nice, clean, matte look. It works well for other plastic trim, too. Like the diffuser part on the rear bumper and the cowl near the windshield.

Don't you know that shinier means better?

But seriously, why bother with a cleaner? Just wipe down with water and a mild soap and you will get the look you want.

If you want it flatter than that, fine-grit sandpaper will do the trick .

Bleche-wite. It's a cleaner - not a shine - and works wonderfully. Aside from that, buy a "satin" or "natural" look tire shine from the big box store and apply it with a microfiber cloth; it'll cut down on excess and provide a more even look.

I've found the No Touch tire foam sold at walmart is pretty good. It leaves behind a very satin clean look that won't make your tire look greasy or oily at all. It's slightly shinier than a brand new tire with nothing on it but it's an easy way for me to dress the tires and wheel wells.

303 aerospace, most boating stores. its the good stuff, dilute with water for very flat finish.

Adam's VRT leaves a dark rubber color without super shine.

:laughabove: Yep, Adam's VRT. You will not be disappointed. www.adamspolishes.com

^^^^This - been using it for years. Can also get it at Amazon. Works great on interior stuff as well as leather. One bottle for everything on or in the car that isn't painted. Sure make life easy.

I love 303. I use it on tires, the fender well, plastic trim...

GTHachiRoku 07-19-2013 10:27 AM

+1 for Adam's VRT. The FRS didn't really need it cause it's so new. But boy did it work wonders on all the black trim pieces on our 2006 Legacy. It leaves a clean, matte look and is water based so no greasy nastiness lol.

No one likes tire sling.

^ This or Sonax tire gel applied with a MF pad works wonders.

I like this: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/optimum-optibond-32.html

Diluted 50/50 it leaves a light shine but not greasy looking and lasts about 2-3 weeks.

toyoman 07-24-2013 05:26 PM

^ This. It lasts longer than any other tire cleaner/protectant I've used, and does not produce a glossy wet look, just a natural clean look

mrnibbs 07-26-2013 04:15 PM

The shinier the faster it goes

Propaganda 07-31-2013 02:26 PM

I love me some VRT. Been using that for years

Kimsey47 07-31-2013 02:36 PM

Plasti-dip.

FRyeS 08-01-2013 03:38 PM

I did try Lucas Oil Slick Mist on a whim. No overshine and i'm a week in and it's still looking pretty good. The jury is still out until I get through a few more washes and applications, but so far so good.

Anyone else try this stuff?

qoncept 08-01-2013 04:01 PM

I just used 303 Aerospace quick this morning. Looks good a few hours later but I'll tell you in a couple days.

Kiske 08-18-2013 01:36 AM

Does the 303 or adams pick up everything like most tire shines do? Most I've used look good until you drive them then crud sticks to the shinny finish.

The 303 actually soaks into the rubber so it doesn't pick anything up while driving and it doesn't sling off. Just makes the tire look black like a new one with a little sheen. If you want really shiny tires, it's not for you. I use the 303 for everything (see my previous post) so I haven't tried the Adams but they do make good stuff.

Clean with Westley's Bleche-white and dress with Meguiars # 40 Vinyl dressing for a matt finish. Both usually available at you local Auto-Zone. Works great also on rubber door seals and trim. Makes it look new , not shiny.

PantsDants 08-20-2013 02:36 AM

Another +1 for 303 aerospace protectant. You can actually buy it at O'Reilly around here, they have it in the back. Spray it on, wait like five minutes, wipe it off.
