Product Review Flowmaster Cat-back exhaust
Okay, so Flowmaster might not be the first name you think of when talking about sport compact import performance, but they've been making mufflers and exhaust systems for thirty years, and have proven patented technology.
They've done much more than just fox body Mustangs, and F-bodies over the years as well, and actually have several well known exhaust systems for four cylinder applications, both domestic and import. Flowmaster Part Number: 817596 Retail is right around 600 bucks, street price likely in the low 500's.... http://www.carid.com/images/flowmast...ems/817596.jpg The system is simple, yet stylish when on the car. It doesn't scream loud/aftermarket JDM when you see it, but the tips are straight, and in the right spots, and clearly tastefully larger than stock, with a clean polished look and a subtle logo. Here's a sound clip of the exhaust. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpsA2OsbTC0"]Flowmaster FR-S Sound Test - YouTube[/ame] I actually really like the way it sounds. The video makes it seem louder than it actually is. This exhaust makes a nice deep low sounding tone at low RPM, and doesn't scream or sound raspy at high RPM. Most importantly, it doesn't drone. All in all, I think this is one of the best first mods you can do to your FR-S, and a fantastic cat-back exhaust for the money. If you're looking for a place to buy one, PM me and I can give you a great source that has these in stock ready to go. |
Sounds raspy to me.
|
It's raspy for the first couple of minutes on warm up. Kinda goes away afterwards and does sound good.
|
Definitely sounds louder than my Perrin non-resonated cat back. From the looks of the picture you provided it does not look like it has a resonator either.
|
I'm sorry, but I don't see how you say it doesn't drone. I had bought a used flowmaster catback a couple of months ago and it stayed on the car a total of 3 days. At 70 MPH it was horrible and my 3 year old son was holding his ears. That prompted me to get rid of it. It does look and sound good, but from my experience it droned really bad.

This exhaust belongs on a truck. Sounds awful.... Sorry just an opinion. That echo inside the chambers is really not my taste.

solid review,
I Have the flowmaster as well, i love it. the video sound doesnt do it justice.., at idle it sits aggressive and deep.. even at low rpms, it sounds good, but when you really get on it.. and the rpms increase.. the sound is awesome, just deep and perfect, no low quality bee buzzing noise, no tin can rattling noise like old civics.. or better yet.. crap exhausts on new cars.... not one person has said anything negative about the sound, everyone i know loves it.. even when they just hear it at idle, or reverse.. etc.. i know the performance gains on this exhaust.. i wont go into detail here due to not wanting to start a war against the internet pros, but if your curious PM me.. if you want to hear this exhaust in person and your in the CT/MASS/NY area, PM me. |

What did you find? |
I got mine this weekend. It sounds great. It's deep sound that flow master can only deliver.

Okay, so some members were asking me about some additional sound clips, and I have a much better demo video now.
