FR-S RallyX
So, I took my car to a local SCCA RallyX event this past weekend. What an awesome experience! The track was pretty flat, so I didn't feel myself bottoming out anywhere. Drifting this car in the dirt is so much fun.
What can I do to make it faster? The grip from the prius tires was adequate, but that could definitely be improved. Would tires be a better investment than messing with the suspension? |
Tires #1 importance! Then lots and lots of practice!
|
Order up some winter tires (or full rally tires) and another set of wheel. :)
|
get your cigarette lighter fixed!
|
Not to be redundant, but tires. And a gopro so we can watch the awesomeness.

there were a few people taking videos, so if someone posts it on our rallycross forum I'll post it up here

Tires. Maybe a spare set of wheels to mount them on. Be sure to read the class rules as some tread patterns / tread wear ratings will bump you into an unlimited class.
From there, a 2 way clutch type diff and a bucket set to keep you locked it. |
I'd love to AutoX my car but courses seem like crap in my area. I used to run +1.5 King Springs in my STI.
I have worked on a number of Rally America cars and everyone I talk to sights tires as the best improvement, and a LSD diff. Our diff is descent so thats for later on. Subtle Solutions make a lift kit using spacers on the strut tops. |
One of the rallycross guys says he has a set of 16x7 wheels from his old Subaru, I'm going to try them out next time. At this place, I shouldn't have to lift it

Just a preview
Here's a pic of me drifting into the last corner at today's rallycross. Those prius tires make it really easy to drift everywhere
