Thanks for posting this!:thanks:

Disappointed to see that the HU model number has changed. I believe MY13 is FA601US. That speaks negatively to the prospect of having a firmware update to add Aha! to existing MY13 cars.

Scooby South 07-17-2013 12:20 PM

When are the 14 models supposed to be delivered?? Curious to know if they fix the dip. Hope you are well man.. :)

2014 models are being delivered in Oct/Nov.

First '14 deliveries will happen in October most likely. It's what my dealership said about the '14 FR-S's as well.
And as far as the torque dip is concerned, most likely not. If it is, the fix will be given to '13s as well with a simple ECU update.

Can the torque dip be fixed with software? It seems like the dip fix would require more of a change in physical components (headers, cams, etc.).

Sport-Tech 07-17-2013 12:44 PM

^Huge threads on the torque dip. Search is your friend. Let's keep this thread ON topic (for a change).

Bill - 2014 BRZ Pricing / Ordering haven't even been made available yet so I wouldn't expect deliveries before the 4th Quarter (Oct-Dec).

Hopefully Subaru offers an Aha radio upgrade for the BRZ's like they are doing with the Legacy/Outback's. 2013 Legacy/Outback owners that do not have Aha radio can upgrade to the Aha Audio unit for $100.00 if they want to add it.

Isn't the headunit in the 2013 BRZ the same as the 2013 Legacy/Outback one?

But to answer your question any how its a combination of physical and ECU tune factors

Nope, the Legacy/Outback unit is completely different, it's sculpted into the dash, not a DIN unit.

Thank you sir, I was confused :)

Thanks for all the info, very helpful.

I am definitely interested in learning more about the new head unit as you get more info.

You're probably thinking about the Impreza, which does have an option for the same Fujitsu Ten FA601US head unit as the BRZ.

Good, maybe this means it will be cheaper and easier to get a hold of the whole set of knee pads from a local dealer VS ordering from a Japan reseller.

Yeah, that'd be nice. I was expecting to see the same part number radio with a new firmware that has Aha!, but it's a new part number. I haven't seen any pics so who knows if they just modified the software and rolled the part number for the same hardware, or what's going on/

For the Legacy/Outback, is that a $100 upgrade at the time of purchase, or can you come in after you bought the car and have them do it? I haven't heard of that. I wonder if they are loading new software on existing units, or exchanging the HU? I'd assume for $100 it would be the former.

either that...or they are doing the 'Glo'(backlit) badge

It's a $100 upgrade after you bought the car and includes an exchanged head unit.

Not sure exactly what they are changing, but I would guess they are removing the Subaru from the trunk as only the North American cars get that.

Steering wheel controls?

Went looking around to see what this Aha! radio thing was and if it gave us a head unit with buttons (it doesn't). The most striking thing I noticed was that the steering wheel has what looks like audio controls on it! Is this another show-car tease?

OH! I would like to transfer steering wheels if they came with controls.

That's the pre-production model BRZ. They had steering wheel controls but that was sacked for the actual production model of the car. Maybe they'll decide to put them back in on the 2014? Doesn't matter though, I'm already enjoying my 2013 while you guys wait for your 2014. :)

ozne99 07-21-2013 05:41 PM

Damn, I would have liked a better head unit... and the knee pads. Oh well, as long as there isn't a 10hp bump in power and better tires or anything.

Ah. Bummer. It's not TOO big of a deal. I am actually waiting for my '13 still. Hopefully it will be here next week. Steering wheel controls are definitly not a deal breaker for me. Along with the knee pads which I would have just replaced with JPM kneepads. It will be interesting to see what the actual confirmed changes are.

chanomatik 07-22-2013 03:33 PM

I've already replaced my interior with the GT-86 parts, including rear passenger armrest. Now I just wish I had steering wheel controls. If that comes on the 2014 I'll be a little pissed that I have to swap steering wheels to be completely satisfied with my interior.

I would also hope that the updated badging is like what others suggested, just a removal of "Subaru" since North America is the only place to bother themselves with keeping the rear busy.

I'm not sure if this is true or not.
The dealer I've been working with asked me if I would take another color instead since they're having trouble finding a WRB Limited for me.
The color they offered me... a brand new Lightning Red Limited(Sport Tech for Canada) BRZ.

In Canada, we only have a choice of 4 colors.
World Rally Blue, Satin White Pearl, Sterling Silver Metallic and Crystal Black Silica.

So I'm not sure where this random red one is coming from, unless it's a US model... but more color options in Canada would be nice.

Sport-Tech 07-22-2013 09:15 PM

^ Interesting - there is no way the dealer will be selling a US model, the manufacturers don't permit that. Subie Canada did say they were considering new colours (note Canadian spelling!) this year.

I loathe the red on this car, I sure hope we also get the Galaxy Blue Silica as an option. Better still would be a few totally new colours.

The dealer confirmed it was 2014 model, arriving soon. Now I'm skeptical.
I'm still sticking with World Rally Blue though even though Galaxy Blue Silica look would look good as well.

Well sent an email to Subaru asking if aha radio function will be available for my 2013 BRZ this is what they said.

"Dear Mr. Pickett:
Thank you for your email received by Subaru of America, Inc. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us.
We want to thank you for reaching out to Subaru, as it relates to your Subaru BRZ and Aha. At this time, we are not offering Aha for the BRZ models.
While we are not aware of future offers at this time, we will forward your suggestion to our Product Planning Department. Such information is reviewed and sometimes used when deciding upon future products.
If you have any future comments or questions, please contact us again.

That is your typical tier1 customer service response. Yes, there is no Aha app feature on the current model. That can change. I think we will know more once the 14's are shipping and somebody can confirm if the radios are pretty much the same with the only difference being the 14's have a different model number due to the Aha update.

I guess we will find out sometime in October/November.

8987846 07-23-2013 06:29 PM

as far as i know, 2013 canadian brz are capable of updating HU map firmware form 2011 to 2012, and Aha radio comes with the ride.
you can either pay for it or hack it to have Aha for free (search my previous thread).
so i would think 2014 brz will definitely come with steer mount control.
