No STi version
:mad0260:

Noob question: when/if they come out with STi version, I wonder if toyota will have the same engine option available?

FR-ST sounds nice. Or FR-S GT

I, for one, don't want steering wheel controls. I don't find them a necessity as I've never had them and I'd like to keep it that way.

I like the limited controls.... I just drove a buddy to NY to pick up a 7 series BMW he was buying. The insane number of buttons on a lot of today's cars is, well, insane.

I am seriously planning on trading to a 2014 BRZ limited from my FR-S. Not because I'm not happy with the FRS but just because I'd like the few additional amenities that I decided I could do without 13 months ago when I sided with the FRS.

This is why I'm getting a BRZ, and also why I don't understand why people claim 2 lb seat warmers or 3 lb heavier headlights are affecting anything on a 2800 lb car. I think people are losing perspective when it comes to the BRZ/FRS and comfort vs weight. Yes the BRZ stuff weighs a little more, but the quality of the driving while in the car is so much higher.

Yeah, but then the international ones will be "GT86GT" which is just silly.

Does Toyota have a designation for sports cars? Something along the lines of Subaru's STI or Spec B, or Nissan's SE-R or Spec V, Honda Type R or Acura Type S, Chevy's SS, etc?

GT86GT sounds terrible, that's like saying "Scion FR-S Scion" lol

I was trying to think of Supra "turbo"... celica "GT".... damn toyota hasn't had many sports cars, huh? Most companies love having some race/sport-branding.

edit: obviously TRD is there but Scion FR-S TRD sounds lame as hell. What's next, Scion FR-S TRD Type S-2-R?

It's nice when its "type-x" or "spec-x" or "_____-T" or "______-turbo"

I guess ideally, toyota should've said "Scion fR" and the "R" already signified the "race" part... but then add the "fR-S" (like RSX type-S or RSX-S) for the turbo version. They need to hire me for their marketing :D

Well, since they've already called it FR-S, they could call it FR-SS, but that'd be trademark infringement on Chevy's SS. So then, going alphabetically, FR-ST would be trademark infringement on Ford's ST. But if they did FR-TT, that'd be trademark infringement on the Audi TT. So the only thing that would work would be a Scion FR-TS. Somehow I think that a FR-TS wouldn't be too popular among those with a more juvenile mindset.

:bonk::iono::laughabove::thumbdown: :lol::barf:

I agree, can't use any of them, even FR-S-S because that's honda's deal. Everything's taken, and toyota has missed the boat.

FR-S turbo is the only thing I can think that would work. Sort of like Supra Turbo. And when I was younger I thought Supra Turbo was an inline-6 with a single turbo, but no, it was turbos. Supra Turbos

Supra turbo = supra + 1 turbo

The pricing is also starting to skew towards the BRZ thanks to the Scion Pure Price BS where they will not negotiate. In my area a base FR-S is about $1800-2000K less than a BRZ Limited. The hids alone will cost you that much if you want to upgrade the FR-S hids.

I sat and drove both cars and I preferred the amenities and upgraded interior of the BRZ. If it was a $4-5K difference I would have been more on the fence but you get a lot for about a $2K difference in price. Hids and push button start alone were worth it for me. Everything else is cake.

I do like the front of the FR-S more, but I am sitting in the car a lot more than I am on the outside looking at it :)

If anyone was wondering and/or curious, I can confirm that the FR-S is also getting the red-stitched knee pads and door speaker panels as well for MY2014.

fruits? Clearly not a juvenile
Everyone knows you add an 'x'. fr-sx. I'm sure that would work fine.
Pardon me while I corner the market on 'e's....

Sadly, I'm looking for the AT but I might end up with a 2014 model at this rate.

ericmpena 07-26-2013 12:55 AM

The BRZ Limited is my 3rd new car. If there's one thing I've learned...it's don't settle for the base model without any of the nice features. After a year you're gonna wish you had the model with all the features.

now that I know you're local and looking, I'll keep an eye out on one for you.
