Plasti dip on top of Opticoat?
 

I'm currently getting a clear bra installed on my whiteout FRS. Next week I'm going to get Opticoat Pro applied on top of that. :thumbup:

I want to put black plastidip on my wheels and Toyota emblems (rebadge). My question is...

1. Should I or should I not get the wheels opticoated?
2. What about the emblems?

My feeling right now is that the plastidip will not stick as well to the opticoat. I'm thinking I will not get opticoat on the wheels, but wanted to check with you guys for your experiences first.

As for the emblems, I am thinking I will just have it debadged and give it to the shop. Once they have opticoated the entire car, I will install the plastidipped badges. Since the badges have adhesive, I would expect them to stick fine. Thoughts?

How about glueing emblems on top of a opticoated car?

I think I'd rather have Opticoat on the paint, then put the clear bra on top of that. Opticoat on top of a clear bra seems pointless to me.

If you're going to dip the wheels anyway, I wouldn't even bother with Opticoating them. I opticoated my wheels because I like how I can simply hose away any brake dust without much effort. If you plastidip on top of the Opticoated wheels, you lose that benefit and since you're already covering the wheels with the dip, what purpose is the Opticoat serving (same concern as above with the bra)?

It's best to think of Opticoat as a very long-term Wax job and not as scratch protection. If you want a paint surface that beads water without weekly waxing to make it easier to keep clean, Opticoat is a good option. If you're looking for some kind of protection against scratches, look elsewhere.

I was under the impression that the general consensus was to opticoat on top of clear bra because of adhesion issues with the clear bra, and it helps prevent yellowing. You are correct about it not protecting against scratches (That's why I have the clear bra on the front).

The reason I am curious about opticoating the wheels is for the same reason as you... ease of cleaning. Since plastidip is only temporary, it would be nice that once I get tired of the plasti dip look and I peel it off, the wheels are opticoated underneath and are a breeze to clean. However if there are adhesion problems with the plastidip on top of opticoat then I cannot do that.

I was advised not to try to stick anything over opti, however both my badges and my rain guards are stuck on top of opti and are holding fine. Im not implying plasti will be unaffected, but my detailer did the opti and said if i was doing a clear bra or vinyl to do it prior to opti in his opinion

I was not aware that Opticoat helps to prevent yellowing on the bra. That being the case, then yeah, go over the bra.

If you're always going to have your wheels dipped, then I see no value in putting Opticoat underneath the dip, but if you're planning on exposing them from time to time, then yeah, Opticoat on the wheel.

I have Opticoat on my entire car except for glass and I've had no issues sticking things on to it (3M, wheel balance weights that go on the barrel, etc.) I haven't tried dip - maybe I'll dip my badges and see how that goes.
