2013 BRZ OEM Navigation - flaw or bug in Navi?

I've taken a few lengthy road trips in the BRZ now and having used the OEM Fujitsu navi to do the route guidance I've discovered what I think is a bug or flaw in the way it functions. I know, shocking, the BRZ Navi sucks so much I bet not many people have bothered to use it enough to discover this issue.

So here's where it comes up. You set up a route destination and start on your trip. Along the way you decide to change the radio station or switch audio etc. So you hit the AUDIO button and make your adjustments. Then to get back to the Navigation you press the MAP button. It switches the display back to the map and then it speaks. The problem is, it then gives you improper audio directions because it will give you the next expected turn instruction waayyyy before it is due. Regardless of how far away the next turn on your route is, the navi will say that turn is coming up in half a mile. :iono:

So let's say you're driving along I-5 (a really long interstate here in CA) and your next turn or exit is not until 80 miles from where you are. But you go to change your radio station and then go back to the navi mode, and she will tell you right away that you need to exit for the next turn in half a mile. :confused0068: :mad0259:

Just stupid in how it functions. In my Lexus navi whenever you press the MAP button while you are in route guidance mode, it verbally tells you how far away the next turn is and what the next turn/direction would be. So if you are 80 miles away from the next turn it would say "in 80 miles, take the exit on the right". In the Subaru, same steps gets you "in half a mile, take the exit on the right." It simply says whatever the next guidance prompt should be, way early. You can imagine how confusing or crazy this could get if you are not paying attention to where you are or totally not familiar with the route, the navi will have you exiting early in the middle of nowhere.

I recently drove 1700 miles with my BRZ and the F10 worked flawlessly. When I return to the map she says "Drive XXX miles" which is the next turn or merge. Worked that way for 150, 50, and 22 miles.

Mine works as well. I know there are a few firmware revisions out there, so it may be a problem with your particular update.

Interesting. I will have to mention it to the dealer at my next visit then. I did get the GPS antenna relocation and firmware update done a few months back.

At least yours doesn't say "swith off the navigation". :(

Only bug I experienced so far was a one time thing in which the navi volume jumped to max. I couldn't get it to change until I stopped either.

Mine has been working correctly. Also you don't have to exit Nav mode to change the radio station. There is a button on the screen that you tap and it will enter a split screen mode. I usually use that on road trips.

A quick update on this story... I finally brought it in to the dealership for the next oil change and to have them look at the navi bug I was experiencing. They test drove the car, did what I described and verified the malfunction.

Their first response was, ok there is a TSB for the navi to replace the antenna bracket and a new SD card. Ummm... well I pointed out that this TSB was performed months ago on my car to fix other Navi issues I had experienced, which didn't fix it (and for all I know, could have caused it). So the next move now is they have ordered an entirely new Navi unit which should come in about a week. I was a little surprised that is the solution, not some kind of simple software update. So I guess I am getting a new head unit.

Will advise when it is done and whether that solves the issue. :iono:
