CCR Region SCCA will be holding a Hill Climb event there at the beginning of August.

Just a "heads up" for anyone planning on Going to the Tail of the Dragon soon: http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/22852453...129-in-smokies

The SCCA Tail of the Dragon Hillclimb is not actually run on the Dragon (US129). It is run on another road in the same area that is more easily closed during the event.

Are roads like this rare there? Just asking as I see this particular road brought up a few times a week so just curious.

No there's plenty of backroads in TN. This is a well maintained highway that goes through the mountains, and the number of turns on that route makes it that much more notable.

The fact there are so many switchbacks and no intersecting roads makes it very nice. That, and the corners seem to just. Keep. Coming.

To be honest I was skeptical before I went. But as I was driving, I was giddy the entire time. You really are able to test your boundaries there. Just don't cross the yellow line... That's a pretty BIG no no and is the one thing the authorities wont tolerate. :burnrubber:
