How do you combat dog hair?
For me it was never really an issue before as I drove a dogged out Outback with tan trim. However, my little guy is getting everywhere now.
Anyone with some real tips for taking care of this? I was thinking of buying a shop vac and just goin at it every few days. |
I bought a 3M lint roller specifically to remove dog hair from my shirts. I also use it to remove hair that transfers from my shirts to the seats in my FR-S. My dog is like my little stalker, so I usually have dog hair on me.
|
Wait till all the hairs ball up then throw the balls away
|
I have a white German Shepard so I'm always dealing with her hair..I use a lint roller and a shop vac and I take care of it every 3-4 days so it doesn't build up..
She isn't allowed in the car, but my pants are always covered in white hair and it ends up on the floor and seats |
Easy, dogs do not belong in the FRS/BRZ.
|
I dont, my car seats have enough hair on them that I can create another small dog using it.

Man's best friend: FR-S
FR-S's worst enemy: Dogs (and shitty drivers) Solution: Avoid dogs and shitty drivers. |
Take my wife's car.

Wear coveralls when you are driving

vacuum your dog before he gets in the car:bellyroll:

I don't let my dog ride in the FR-S. The Tacoma had a big armrest she used to like to stand on or walk across, but the center console in the FR-S would present problems for her. Also, the Tacoma had a gray interior that hid a much of the hair. Still, some hair transfers from my clothing to the seats, so I have the lint roller to keep it clean.

So many dog nazis in this thread
|
Was hoping for some revolutionary ideas :) I'll stick with rollers and vacuum I guess!

Does your dog try to jump out of the car when she hears a drive through speaker? Does she accidentally bump you out of gear walking across the center console? Have you seen the Allstate "mayhem" commercial featuring Mayhem with a dog in his lap? So many judgmental people in this thread. Godwin's law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies or Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies[1][2]) is an assertion made by Mike Godwin in 1990[2] that has become an Internet adage. It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1." Only took 13 posts. |

Your calliing me rude and idiotic, yet all you come in here to tell the OP dont let the do ride when he obviously is going to and wants idea on how to keep the car clean, thanks for being helpful, thanks for contributing something useful. I call it as i see, it fucken dog nazis comming into a thread they have nothing useful to contribute.

Get seat covers, such as leather/vinyl covers (Clazzio or Katzkin for example). It'll make hair a lot easier to get rid of (the stock FRS material seems to really stick to dog hair..), plus you get the leather seats that a lot of people consider an 'upgrade'.
OR, get a dedicated dog seat cover like this: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Passenger-Waterproof-Blanket-Protector-Single/dp/B00CMBFK2S"]Amazon.com: Pet Dog Cat Passenger Seat Car Auto Waterproof Blanket Cover Protector Black Front Seat Passenger Single Seat Cover: Pet Supplies[/ame] There's also 'bench seat' type versions for the back seats. Just remove them from the car when your dog isn't riding in it and throw it in the washer/storage/whatever. |

I love people like you who claim to love animals, yet are so vulgar and hostile towards other people. Go ahead. Curse and argue some more. No longer reading your nonsense. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872841/wendy_1.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872841/wendy_2.jpg |
Ok so it wasnt you you did contribute, but the person who said dont let the dog ride and all those that agreed are dog nazis

I've got an Australian shepherd who is constantly shedding, the only choice is to vacuum. I have a shop vac and it works out great, my only complain in the slobber, that ends up everywhere especially after going to the dog park and he's panting really hard. I've got drool spots all over.

lint rollers as someone mentioned. worked wonders in my other cars, haven't let a doggie in my frs and don't plan on it lol.

My sister has one of those silicone grooming brushes "As Seen On TV" for her cat's hair transferred from clothes.
Seems to work well. Rolls up hair on the seats or sticks to the bristles. Gets them pretty clean. The stuff that sticks to it washes right off. Think you can get them at PetCo too. |

Actually, I have two layers of dog seat cover in the back. Works pretty well. |
rubber kitchen gloves

I keep a roll of cheap clear packing tape in the car, wrap some around my hand sticky side out and use that. Allows me to get into places I can't reach with a lint roller.
Must say the fur cleans off the FR-S cloth seats much easier than I thought it would. It's actually harder to get it off the carpets. |
I also use this
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-ACC_S06-Electrostatic-Removal/dp/B0042B4B3U/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&qid=1373932992&sr=8-22&keywords=dog+hair+remover"]Amazon.com: Chemical Guys (ACC_S06) Rubber Electrostatic Pet Hair Removal Brush: Automotive[/ame] you have to go over the area slowly otherwise it'll just throw the hair back as the bristles spring forward, but it has a squeegie type thing on the side that helps by getting into the crevices. This tool loosens the hair significantly so that I can put it in a pile and then hit it with the lint roller. Also small enough to keep in the glove box. I also give the dog a really good brushing before getting in the car, prevention doesn't stop all the hair but it helps. One time I didn't and I could have made another dog out of all the hair. |
lol, love this thread. I have a Husky and a Puggle. Puggle's hair isn't so bad, but I swear the Husky sneaks into my car every night and sleeps. Funny thing is he has NEVER been near my car and the interior is covered with his hair!!! :bonk:

you can also try putting on a pair of rubber gloves while vacuuming. with gloves on you can pile it up by hand pretty easily if its not embedded in there |

OT: The rubber glove with a vac trick and a stiff nylon bristled carpet brush have been my method of choice for a while. |

I use a Dyson DC34. Against cat hair it works OK, it cleans my car good either way.
