Hawaii

I guess I'll take the initiative and start a Hawaii thread. People stuck on a rock in the middle of the sea, check in here! Anyone? Anyone??

Not in Hawaii (unfortunately), but Seattle.

I thought I saw in the allocation info that Hawaii was not getting any BRZ's. Not sure if that's correct, and I would be surprised if that was the case, but have you heard this? Are you planning on getting one, even if it means shipping it over from the west coast?

Hawaii seems ideal for the BRZ - some good twisty roads, and most of them you can't (legally) go over 50-55.

We're actually getting 5 over here. And because our local dealer (Servco Subaru) has sort of a weird relationship with SOA, we're not doing pre-orders. My friends works for Subaru and he tells me they'll be sold on a first come first serve basis. No pre-orders, no wait list. Because Servco sells all their cars for MSRP regardless, it's basically whoever get's in first to buy one (kind of like an iPhone release). Kind of sucks in a way, but hopefully my friend comes through for me.

Actually you're right about the slow speeds, but on the island I live on (Oahu) we don't really have any good mountain/canyon roads. The few we have are either extremely short (like less then 2 miles short), or in the case of the one decent driving road we have are heavily patrolled by police and the neighborhood watch. The three other major island all have at least one awesome driving road, but none on Oahu. =(

Oahu here as well...do you know if it will be the base model or the premium that we will be getting? still trying to get a feel for how many people are looking forward to this car here in the 808...it was at the auto show this past weekend along with the FRS so I wonder if that made people more aware of it

Well actually the base model is, weirdly, called the Premium. And upper trim is called the Limited. And as far as the break down of what models Servco is getting, I havent heard yet. I will post here when I do find out though, sometime next week. I'm sitting down with my friend/dealer.

Oh, and if you do want one you better go down to Servco and put you name down. My friend told me that Servco is going to be doing a lottery for the first few shipments: names will be drawn at random out of all interested parties and those who get picked get first crack. Kind of weird but whatever, at least no one can bitch this way.

palanilopez12 04-08-2012 12:48 AM

yeah I thought there were going to be three trims for the BRZ...but only the 2...damn lottery huh...yeah I guess that would make it fair to a certain degree...but I would be pissed if I was one of the first people to do down there when I found out they were taking orders and then not even be picked...I want this car but I think I will wait it out...especially if we are not even really going to get what everyone wants

Servco Scion also told me it will be first come first serve basis. I'm not so sure how that works for this... Will there be a line at the front door on the day of the release? Each person takes a few hours signing papers. I don't understand how it would work.

Finally.. First Subaru BRZ spotted today on Kapiolani blvd. (white)
Hmm, perhaps the shipment has finally arrived... :)
Can anyone else confirm?

touge-n00b 05-17-2012 02:46 PM

YES! They are here, I went down to Waialae to sit in one and, yes it was brilliant!

Really a shame they're only getting 20 (BRZs) for the whole year here. I doubt I'll be getting one (unless my luck is good!).

Sigh-on-Rice 05-17-2012 02:48 PM

Do you happen to know how many of those 20 are limited trim with manual trans?

yes I would like to know this as well since I would only get a limited one with mtx

touge-n00b 05-18-2012 04:12 AM

My friend told me 10 are limited and 10 are premiums. That's all I know. Also for the first four we have here, there's one premium manual and limited automatic at Waialae, I don't know about Mapunapuna.

Took this pic on Tuesday, so much nicer in person! And the seats and steering wheel are brilliant!! I swear if this car drives half as good as I was expecting it to I'll still love it!

So this Saturday, if you're serious about buying the car, you have to go down to either Waialae or Mapunapuna and enter the lottery (you'll have to get your finances straight on Saturday too, or get pre-approved if you're financing). You can ONLY enter on Saturday, and ONLY at one dealership (can't put your name at both locations). The following Saturday (May 26th) they'll draw for the car and you must be able to pick it up on that day. If you're not, it goes to the next one.

It is kind of a f**ked up way to do it, but at the same time it's also fair. And in a way I like it because it'll weed out the guys who are on the fence about buying the car. I know I've been waiting for this car for two years, sold my WRX (so now I'm car-less ), and am willing and able to buy one. So needless to say I'll be there (at Waialae). I didn't even want to post any of this up because that'll increase my chances, but well you know.

As I said, my friend works at the Waialae dealership (and no, that doesn't mean I get an increased chance or anything trust me) so if you got anymore questions post um up and I can ask.
