Removing the sound generator tube

I was thinking to change the intake system, so I picked the K&N but with this one I have to remove the sound generator tube. I want to know what do I lose if I miss it? or what exactly is that for?

With an aftermarket CAI nothing, its simply a marketing gimmick which pipes some intake noise into the cabin instead of them making a louder exhaust, an aftermarket CAI will give you a comparable note if not better and if you cap it off it makes the engine bay look a bit better almost cleaner.
