Will we ever see a 6 cylinder engine?
 

In my opinion, a flat (boxer) 6 cylinder engine is the best all around engine configuration. I was wondering if they may offer this type of engine for this car in the future to satisfy those who want more power (don't we all?). So I started thinking about the layout. I was thinking that they could have a transaxle at the rear instead of the transmission to get the engine further back and the transmission lower and the weight distribution more even. But then I remembered the biggest problem with having a boxer engine in front: the steering rack. The engine is likely as far back as it can go with the transmission leaving just enough room to the side for the steering rack. Having a 4 cylinder engine allows it to have minimal overhang in front of the axle. A 6 cylinder may still fit but it might cause undesirable handling, even with a transaxle... What do you think?

The handling would not suffer. With a ~50 lb weight increase and ~2" increase in length over the FA, an EZ wouldn't be any heavier or longer than the next-gen WRX motor. And with either of them, you're only looking at a change from 53/47 to ~54/46 (with driver and fuel).

Is that how heavy the 6 cylinder would be? If so that is impressive and would make for a good Cayman fighter for half the money.

Id say no, Toyota and Subaru need to stick to their guns and keep this car low on power with a 4cyl. Its easy to get caught up in the power race in this industry and meeting the demands of the HP per Dollar debate among a similar segment is poisonous. Driving prices higher every year. Eventually again making a void in the industry.

A 6 cylinder is a step in the wrong direction and it forces the Zx6 to be something it shouldn't, even if its a superior configuration over the current.

Easy I have no interest in the additional power, weight, expense and the changed driving characteristics that would result. A high revving 4 cylinder fits the attitude of this car perfectly.

Would you say the same thing about a Cayman? It has a 6 cylinder boxer that none of its owners probably wished was a 4 cylinder boxer. The Cayman is also heavier by over 200 lbs yet everyone worships that car like it's Jesus Christ. I could understand if the engine was a lot more heavier(150+lbs) and it did more harm than good but I seriously doubt it. You wouldn't buy it but I am pretty sure there is a lot of other people who wish they could've own a Cayman and would easily consider it over the price of a 5.0 Stang. I would definitely take it over a stang.

And yes a cayman over a gt but I'd be tempted by the boss 302 ls over a cayman s.

But as one can tell by the cars I've owned I have no interest in large engines and large horsepower numbers.

If this model is a really big hit anything is possible, but I doubt they would try to fit a 6 in there when more power is could be made available in the form of a *gasp* turbo.

I might be in the minority because I cant wait to see this car at blistering levels of performance via power.

It would be interesting if they were to do a 2-seat sports car based on this, with the driver and front passenger seats moved WAY aft, which would make plenty of room for an H6, it could even be mounted much further aft than the H4 in the 2+2.
3.0 H6 in a similar state of tune would make 300hp.

They dont need a six, enough power could be made from this 4 or a bigger 4. A bigger 4 and a tubo could make 300 hp, more than enough, and the MPG would be better than a 6. I would say a 6 is extremely unlikely. But hey, this car was a bit unlikely anyway so who knows.
