Change trans fluid thru dipstick
 

I did a search prior to starting this read and could not find an answer. So I apologize in advance if the topic has already been covered.

Anyway, I owned a Honda Pilot before and the forum members always suggested and recommended filling the transmission with fluid through the transmission dipstick when changing out the trans fluid. Has anybody here done that? And if so, we're there any complications? Btw, I did it with the Pilot twice and never had an issue. It was so much easier. Just wondering if it would be any different with the BRZ/FRS.

Maybe I should clarify...I know the basic steps of changing out fluids for transmissions and diffs. My question is, after draining all the trans fluid, can you fill through the trans dipstick instead of through the fill hole?...Thus, eliminating the need to unbolt the fill hole and buying a crush washer everytime and/or risk stripping the same bolt?

There is no dipstick for the trans on this car.

According to forum member tibsy92, there is. Please read my reference in the originating post. There's also a picture but the link didn't show because I cut and pasted it here.

Vid is blocked at work. Was he refering to an auto? There are two holes under the trans: drain and fill. Make sure the car is level and fill until it starts coming back out of the hole. I don't remember seeing a dip stick, but admittedly I was also not looking for one.

my guess is the automatic has one.

My last Tundra didn't have an Auto Tranny dip stick. Called a sealed transmission. You had to introduce the fluid under the truck.

Anyway. Back to the OP's question. If there is a dip stick there would be no issue with filling the transmission. After all, it is designed to check the level and add fluid if necessary. Just add slowly.

Can you fill it through the dipstick area? As long as you realize that you're not going to get a good reading on the fluid level when you are done. The normal way you fill a manual transmission is you remove the filler plug and fill until the tranny fluid reaches (and thus spills out a little) the filler opening. I imagine it says this in the video posted above?
