New HotPipes Headers In Development

Hello guys! i am currently working with someone on bringing in a high quality and very affordable UEL header to the market.

Here are some pictures and dyno charts of the headers in development

Let me know what you think

Price of these will likely be under $499

Picture above is ONLY a prototype. Final product will look like the picture below. Note: the second product is not for a FA20 motor (different subaru application) It just gives you an idea and how the product will look like after production

And here are the some FAQs:

Q: How much power does it make?
A: Just by bolting on, it's any easy 8-11whp

Q: What is it made of?
A: 304 Stainless steel.

Q: Is it unequal or equal length?
A: Unequal length. The equal length versions we made, did not produce as much power as the unequal.

Q: Does it get rid of the torque dip?
A: It drastically minimizes and it's practically flat for all intents and purposes

Q: Is this a bolt on?
A: Yes it is, 100%

Q: Do I need an overpipe.midpipe?
A: Our headers will bolt on to the stock overpipe, but our bigger over/mid pipe is highly recommended to achieve more power and flow

Q: Do I need to get it tuned?
A: Highly recommended. Tuned headers showed gains of up to 33whp

Q: What kind of power are we expecting when tuned?
A: Out test car is currently the record holder for highest output NA at 192whp. And this is achieved with the least amount of mods: K&N drop in, HotPipes headers, over/mid pipe and reflash. Stock exhaust, stock muffler, stock everything.

Q: How is it made? Manufacturing Process?
A: Each header is hand made

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Intro price will like be $499

What type of SS and where is it supplied from? That's my question since the price is almost too good to be true.

Nightbringer 07-09-2013 06:27 PM

Why must you tease me? TAKE MY MONEY. :P

ramiram1984 07-09-2013 06:28 PM

Afraid the welds will not tolerate heat level and possibly cause a crack...
I'd be interested in seeing some gineau pigs.

L3P47 07-09-2013 06:28 PM

I'm definitely interested. Would like to see how it holds up and a video of the sound and drive.

Opposed 07-09-2013 06:50 PM

Can you explain the dyno's a bit better? Are the first ones with the header just bolted up? And the 192whp one is the header with a tune?

the first 2 charts are stock vs UEL (direct bolt on no tune)

the 3rd one is stock vs UEL with tune

Will a check engine light pop up (I think yes because of the O2 sensor)? Will there be a catted version?

m.wood0213 07-09-2013 07:43 PM

Id also like to know if there will be a catted version. I'd be extremely interested if there is.

RIPTRD71 07-09-2013 07:46 PM

Interested.

Yes a cel will definitely pop up after a few hundres miles but it can be disabled with ecutek.

No plans yet on catted header.

If you release a high flow catted version at $100-$200 increase in price, there will be a lot of potential buyers.

Yellow line was the EL headers being tested.

It did not do as well as the UEL

I do believe if you made a catted header that add $200 to the price it would really really open your sales up to a larger group, the hassle of having to put the stock ones back on for emissions is kind of annoying, at least this way this will seem a bit cleaner to the mechanic doing the emissions if I have a catless header back exhaust.

RehabJeff86 07-09-2013 10:09 PM

wow!! how are you able to keep the cost down so low at $490??

Throw up some close ups of the header in the top pic. Looks like similar manufacturing to the VQ35 headers I have.

jamesm 07-09-2013 10:28 PM

i don't see the point in doing a catted header. why would anyone go to the effort to make all those beautiful smooth mandrel bends flow just right into one another, then go and put a damn cat in the thing. you'd be replacing a catted header with another catted header. getting rid of the cat is the whole point. other than for sound alone, i can't see why anyone would buy that.

A hasty google search shows speedlab of the phillipines may be responsible. This actually seems like one of their pricier headers too (figure due to more piping).

I wasn't able to find a website for HotPipes, did anyone else find this? I always like to research a brand before putting a second thought into giving them money. Usually brand's with websites often ofter other things like customer service, maybe even a warranty.

My findings so far.

Maybe 86_zn6 wouldn't mind sharing something about his recipe ;)

Edit: Confirmed, HotPipes is a Speedlab brand. Learning something!

Thing you need to look out for on these 'bargain' brands is where the corners are cut. In the VQ35 headers I have the tubing is 304 but the flanges are not. The close up of the tube to flange weld shows indications that it may be a stainless to chromed steel weld.

But for less than $500 it's not a huge deal, and will be a good entry point for a lot of people.

empower-auto 07-09-2013 11:25 PM

shut up and take my money?

flanges are 304 as well. no cutting corners here

Well this price sure is right.

xjohnx 07-09-2013 11:36 PM

any pics of the collector merge welds?

supramkivtt2jz 07-09-2013 11:45 PM

what fuel was the tune made for? E85? its nice to see a company create a more efficient header for less than $500
