Will this work? 245/40/18's on 18x9.5
 

Hi guys,

I have 245/40/18 Hankook tires that I was going to put on some Traklite Angle 18x9 +40's. Unfortunately, everyone and their mom is sold out of those wheels and they're on a 2 month back order.

I was wondering if I could do a staggered setup with 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the back. I know the tires will fit on the 18x8.5's, but will they work on 18x9.5's in the back? Also, will this work and not look stupid?

If it would work, what kind of offsets would be best with those tires?

it will work. i dont know if the tires you have run wide though. but most likely there will be a slight stretch.

stay within 35-45 offset range depending on what width wheel and how much camber you want to run.

Ok, cool thanks! But, will the back tires look stretched thin and the front tires look fatter (with a 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 back)?

Depends on the tires even with the same size different tire companies' tires fit differently. I have 245/35/18 on 18x9.5 with Michelin PSS and no stretch or rubbing at all. You should be fine with 245/4 but my only concern would be rubbing unless you are running negative camber because that's more sidewall.

I was hoping to get away with no camber cuz I don't want to have to deal with that. I found some pics of Hankook V12s 245/40/18 on 18x9.5 wheels and they don't look too stretched. I would be a little worried in the front with them on 18x8.5, the sidewall might be too high & rub.

Why not doing a 18x8.5 square setup? IMO just from a cosmetic point of view, having fat beefy wheels in the front, and slightly streched wheels in the back will not look that great.
If you go staggered on wheels, you should aswell on tires. So if you go for 8.5 and 9.5 staggered, how about going for 245/35/18 front and 265/35/18 (or 275/30/18)?
Or if that is to big, 225/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear?

i am running dz101 245/40/18 on all four, 18x9.5 +38. My rear bumper (near the black circle clip) was rubbing, it wore down after about 50 miles and i no longer rub. I plan on intching up to 255 and letting it rub down again and hopefully i am able to squeeze in a 265 at some point. My front is clear, but i am probably roughly -2.7 - -3.0 camber on front. rear is -2.0. My fender line is just a few MM lower than my rear tire height.

Which hankook are you going to run? look up the contact area and see if it is wider than mine. My situation however was right at the edge between contact area & sidewall so it will likely rub in the same spot for you (it is pretty common some just sand it down by hand prior to install). And yes you will be stretched on that size. My "rim guard" separates from the face of my wheel, and my tires dont look anywhere close to square.

I would just wait for the 18x9+40 - that fitment will be great. Staggered is going to induce some understeer, I doubt that's what you're going for.

And unless you're going FI, you don't need such wide wheels. In fact if the 8.5" wheel was the same face (same amount of concavity as the 9"/9.5") I would just go with that if I were you.

245/35/18's running square on 18X9.5. No rubbing issues except clearance is very close in the front to the stock spring.

Thanks for all the input guys. I was going to go square on the traklite 18x9 wheels. But, it's been pretty hard to find any other rims in that size with the right bolt pattern/offset. I don't want to wait for them because by the time they show up it will be winter and I'm impatient.

I've thought about square 18x8.5, but from the pictures I've seen that setup looks too close to stock size IMO. I wanted some beefier looking wheels.

However, at the same time I definitely don't want under steering from a staggered setup.

Lies. Ordered from them only to be told they're on backorder. In the size and color I want anyway.

Every shop that I found on Google shows that they have them in stock, but then I order and I get an e-mail saying they aren't. Pretty frustrating.

Whelp, I guess I'll try returning the tires and go for staggered. I'll have to sacrifice handling, but I won't be racing on these wheels... much.

I have 245/35/18 Pilot Super Sports on some 18x9.5 rims and i have basically no stretch.

I also agree with the others, I went with an 8.5 up front and I regret not going square 9.5, not because of handling but for looks.
