1. Don't rev over 4k
2. Avoid hard braking, quick acceleration from a stop
3. Vary RPM/speed often
4. Don't use cruise control

well i broke the first two rules in about 2 hours of ownership :P

LOL.. you guys are funny. I know what you mean. I didn't do my break in "perfectly" either. I did rev up to about 6500 one time. And I've done a little too much freeway driving which had me at around 3200 rpm fairly consistently.

Just keep in mind that it's "recommended" and not like you HAVE to do it. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination. But I do firmly believe that it will help with the longevity of the car.

I'm no expert by any means, but I bought a 2003 WRX new and broke it in following these recommendations very loosely. No issues with it, current owner is still driving it like crazy and it's gotta be nearing 200k by now.

this, at about 800 miles in the last 5 days.

which consisted of donuts, sliding, back road enjoyment and a significant amount of steady highway driving.

of course none combined

to be fair, the owners manual on my hemi ram bought this year actually said to go wot while breaking in.

ask 10 different people about breaking in something, you'll get 10 different answers.

broke in the new shortblock in my turbo forester hard, near 20k miles later doesn't burn any oil.
