Man Wants To Build Exact Copy Of Nürburgring… In Nevada

Since the greater Las Vegas area only has a copy of Paris, New York, Venice, and alien-occupied ancient Egypt, it's still a good ways away from having a copy of all of Earth's good stuff. Luckily, Bruton Smith, CEO of Speedway Motorsports, is working to fix that, starting with a copy of the Nüburgring.
In this interview on Sirius XM Sports, Smith reveals that he's been talking to "some Germans" about the possibility of creating an exact duplicate of the Nürburgring in Nevada, likely 10 or so miles away from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Smith is very confident he can produce an exact replica, and has been talking to both the Governor and the Nevada Bureau of Land Management, who he's hoping will donate 8,000 acres of land for the project. And why wouldn't they? Nevada has plenty of open dirt without any Nürburgrings at all— this could take care of that situation.
The Nevada 'Ring wouldn't be used for racing, just test track use, though individuals as well as manufacturers could use it.
So what you're saying is that I could be a four hour drive from the Nürburgring, and then moments from $4.99 lobster and the loosest slots in town? Yes, please.

Dear god yes. That is all.

If it happens, I think I'll have to move out West.

Awesome

Vegas National Meet? haha

I don't get why you would do that.

Even if the track is identical environmental differences mean your laps won't be the same, so I see no point in duplicating it at all. If you want a long, highly technical track just design your own.

Without the Eifel Mountains and the Ardennes/Spa 90 mins away, it won't come anywhere near replicating the feel of the place. Much like those faux 'links' golf courses they have in Vegas.

Taken with a grain of salt though - and ensuring you bring a lot of cash or high limit credit card - it could be good for a laugh.

More power to him if he can get such a thing built. But in today's litigious world could such a thing actually succeed?

That is going to gather alot of attention.

Listen to the SiriusXM interview in the article and he says that a big reason is that manufacturers want to be able to do testing year round, which they must not be doing during the winter/rainy seasons in Germany.

I second the moving west sentiments!

I didn't get the feeling they were representing it as a geographic equiv. and If you can't see the benefits of having that track on this continent you have much deeper pockets than me my friend
