How wide do you think steelies would be OEM?

I, like many others on this forum, hope that the "base" or "stripped" model will come with 15/16/17 inch steelies.

My friends were all in the VW scene a few years back, and I feel in love with the widened steelies Golf's Mk1/2/3's used to rock.

My question is, how wide do you guys think the steel wheels will be? 7? 8?

If so, they would look nice with correct tire choice and to only be rocked during the winter months or the early year/months of ownership.

The must have when rocking steelies correctly is a paint job. Must get them powder coated with engine/highheat-stress paint. You can rock any color, but most common is black, then dark grey, white, usually no one does blue or red but I have seen it....:( lol red and blue steelies on a honda...

Sure this sounds cheap, but seriously I think it looks good on alot of cars. And they are great for trashing in the winter since they cost near nothing to replace.

Well if it's any decent comparison, the tC has 17" OEM wheels but the Spec editions were sold with 16" steelies (not sure on width though). I think it will also depend on the brakes and clearance.

My guess is they wouldn't be any more than 7" wide though.

i think it will come with alloy wheels standard - its been a while since a sportscar hasnt come with alloys recently, 350z, rx8, integra type r (RSX) etc.

can you think of any that do come with steel wheels?

I think what he's saying is if they offer a "stripped down" sort of version specifically for "tuners." Subaru did it with the Impreza and Scion did it with the tC. They come with steel wheels b/c people end up putting their own on anyway (as many will with this car).

I too doubt this purpose built sporty car would have a steelies option. I think the entry level alloy wheels will probably be around 7in wide. And I can't help to question your "must get them POWDER COATED with engine/highheat-stress PAINT", which is it?

no wider than 7 from factory is my guess

the mule that was running on the nur ring looks like is using a sti oem rims, whats the size of the STI wheels 16x8? so maybe they are thinking of using that spec but different design.

chulooz 02-18-2010 05:41 PM

depends which year STI rims you are referring too, if Im thinking of the same rims, they are 17x8 or if you saw the newest style sti rims then they were 18x8.5, but I doubt they were those larger ones.

i think, i could be wrong, those (STI Spec C rims) are made in four sizes by enkei...
18x8.5 +53 5x114.3
18x8 +50 5x114.3
18x7.5 +55 5x100
17x7.5 +55 5x100

I'd bet dollars to donuts the car will have 17in rims... at least as an option if not stock.

Midship Runabout 02-18-2010 11:04 PM

+55 offset? ewwww

chulooz 02-18-2010 11:08 PM

damn, those could be the foster STI rims too, which would make them 17X7 +48 5X100... not really sure.
