Discount Tire installed my wheels and tires...and damaged my wheels...advice needed!

Hey everyone.

I wanted to post my issue here on the threads to see if anyone might have any suggestions for a course of action.

I had my Enkei PF01 17x8 wheels and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (purchased from Discount with TPMS rebuild and full warranty on each tire) installed at a Discount Tire near my house in Mesa, AZ this morning at 9AM. After the installation, I drove to my house, which is only a few miles away from the location. Please see the photos below for the damage:

You can tell by the location of the damage that this isn't "curb rash" or similar damage, but likely from when the wheel was put on the machine that is used to mount the tire to the wheel.

I have already sent an email via Discount's contact form on their website. In this email, I provided detailed information about the installation, and also provided links to the photos of the damage and my mileage post-install, in case they try to argue it is damage caused from driving.

I have also left a voicemail on the store's message box (they're closed on Sundays), as well as the regional office's voicemail.

Is there anything else that you guys recommend I should do, or anybody in particular I can contact? I will greatly appreciate any and all help.

Call corporate and bitch until you get a brand new wheel.

No need to call corporate. Just tell the manager they scratched them and he will buy you a new wheel. I know because I used to work there.

They did a similar thing to a Z06 wheel of mine. They had it refinished, and it looked perfect afterward. They told me up-front if I wasn't happy with the refin, they'd buy me a new wheel, FWIW.

just go back to the shop and tell the service manager. be polite and if they hesitate,- release the inner bitch in you. no, seriously, give them the chance to fix it, I'm pretty sure they won't hesitate to make things right.

I worked at a discount tire.. They may give you some shit since its now a your word vs the tech word on if the damage happened at the shop.. One of the reasons to inspect work as soon as they pull it out.. My shop, on instances like this would send the wheel out to the local powder coater and get it refinished.. Never had a problem with one coming back not perfect.. Only time we did have a issue was a greedy manager trying to make money installing 30" rims when we knew the machine couldn't handle it.. Needless to say we messed up his custom rims and sent them off to get them refinished.. Which he had done in a candy color at our expense.. Then we paid to have the tires mounted.. Come to find out after all that it was the wrong bolt pattern funny shit.. Anyway, just talk with them and at the minimum ask for a refinishing

I don't work there anymore so I'm not sure if they have them in stock, but they can order anything you want them to.

Thanks for the advice thusfar, everyone. I do appreciate it. Discount Tire is closed on Sundays, so I will drive back to the store tomorrow, since I work from home. I will update this thread with whatever I detail I get, whether that is from the store, regional, or corporate. As always, if anyone has any additional advice in the meantime, please let me know!

I stopped by Discount Tire this morning, and the manager immediately noticed that the damage was caused by installation of the tire onto the wheel. He offered to have a professional company fix the damaged area of the wheel, and ensured that I wouldn't be able to tell that anything had happened.

I'll be making the appointment for this-coming Friday (7/12), and I will report back then!

I guess it's good that they're willing to fix it, but it's incredibly frustrating that it happened in the first place.

It's a dedicated tire and wheel shop, this is what they DO. It's pretty inexcusable that they would damage a customer's wheel.

It's more of a tire shop and a lot of them aren't really used to doing aftermarket wheels. There are plastics covers you can put on the tire mounting machine to prevent this type of damage. It's as simple as using the plastic edge protector that comes with the wheels to mount the tires, it just pops off once the tire is installed.

Just wanted to update everyone on the situation...

Had the wheel repaired on Friday, was told I shouldn't get it wet for a few days. Oddly enough, it rained pretty consistently over the weekend (stupid monsoon season). Anyways, wheel looks back to normal! Had my hubcentric rings installed today, and all is well!

Keep your eyes peeled for pictures in the official wheel fitment thread!
