In that case I have a Toyota GT86. Pretty sure it says Toyota and not Scion.

Your registration is (should be) done by your VIN, so I find that interesting.

Calavera 07-04-2013 01:24 AM

Registration says Toyota Scion FR-S, at least for me.

lazyluka 07-04-2013 01:31 AM

GT86 even though my car is registered as a "86 GT"

Same. NC didn't have Scion FR-S as an option when I registered it.

I'd say you should call it by whatever badge originally came on the car. if folks have a limited or negative perception of the scion name (bread box cars), telling them it's a scion FR-S is your chance to change that person's perception to a more positive one.

bugsie 07-04-2013 02:14 AM

I like to call it the 86.

pinoy_dorifto 07-04-2013 02:31 AM

Toyota FR-S! an FR-S? Yup!, it means Front engine Rear wheel drive - Scion! -_-" I just got myself more confused! I'll just say it's and FRS by Toyota and sold through Scion.

wrxgoose 07-04-2013 02:32 AM

I usually just call any of them the "86" it's easier to say, and it encompasses all 3

KkSc 07-04-2013 02:32 AM

i like to call it FR-S

Illinois' registration process must be entirely different then, mine was registered at the dealer and I had the first one back last June. Either way, I stick with my original comment. It'll always be Scion, regardless of what's stuck on the outside of it.

Just call it what it is. No one cares what its called overseas....

People who know the history of the car knows what it is. People who don't, don't. I guess Scion's reputation is tarnished somewhat in the States, but here in Canada i'm pretty sure most people have no idea what Scion is.

True. I'll call it a Scion when they fix the BeSpoke head unit they sold and then cut off support for.

.

There is a reason its a Scion here and it wasn't to help the Scion brand, the FR-S caused the Scion to hit dead last in the JD Powers. Toyota couldn't afford to take a hit like that with JDPowers and they saw it a mile before launch.

If the quality issues get worked out, Toyota is posed to claim the GT86 in the US and shut down Scion. If the quality issues persist, scion will lose their customer base and this will just end up another discontinued sports car.

I've heard that Tada is not such a golden child after what the FR-S did to Scion's ranking in JDPowers and is off the Supra project , JDPowers is a big deal for the USA market, Scion went from very high on the list in to dead last worst in the industry. Rumor is the 2014 was delayed from the typical July release because of this.
