Oil and tracking?

Hey everyone, picked up a new 2013 FR-S within the last couple weeks.

I'm currently at 1750km on the car, trying to break it in quickly so I can start having fun with it.

Friday of this week I am planning on taking it to its first track day, however, I wan't to change the oil before I go since it should be past the break in period by now.

I think I am going to go with Royal Purple, full synthetic. I'm assuming the Toyota dealerships use non synthetic oil in their cars just like the Mazda dealer I used to use for my RX8, would switching to a full synthetic Royal Purple oil be alright for it? This is my first time buying a brand new car.

Thanks everyone.

Toyota dealers are using synthetic. I wouldnt use Royal Purple though. I recommend Motul.

Ya for whatever reason motul seems to run best in subaru engines, at least to me, in my old wrx i tried like 5-6 different kinds of oil and motul was my prefered choice

It's not scientific, but I've heard some iffy stuff about Royal Purple over the years.

I second the Motul suggestion...

My dad used Motul oil to track his Miata in the 90's, and he never had any issues...he drove that thing hard too :burnrubber:

Motul is good, so is Redline. Believe it or not, the oil that Toyota sells (TGMO 0W20 synthetic) is also really good stuff, and has a bit of a following on the BITOG forums. It's very competitively priced as well (I get a case of 12 from my local dealer for about $60). I would personally take any of those 3 over Royal Purple.

OP - I don't know how the ambient air temps are going to be where you are tracking your car, but if you can get something (torque app/obd-II connector or scangauge) to keep tabs on your oil temps, that would be a good idea as well...these cars apparently run quite hot at the track

I have returned...

We use Motul 300V in the shop BRZ, and I also use it in my personal car. It's literally one of the best off-the-shelf oils you can buy.

Are there other oils that will work just fine? Sure. 300V is my personal choice, and I've ran used oil analysis on every oil change in my s2k. Keep in mind the S2k runs hotter, revs higher, and makes more power than the BRZ. :)

Oh, and we also happen to ship to Canada  Send a PM to @CounterSpace Garage for a shipped quote.

I run AMSoil in everything. 5w30 engine, Severe Gear in the diff and tranny.

I've never had a problem with Mobile 1

I wouldn't take it to the track after switching to synthetic unless you are sure you do not have any old regular oil in it.

^ Our car came with synthetic straight from the factory.

Anyone here have experience putting Castrol Edge synthetic in their FR-S/BRZ? I'm thinking about trying that.

Awesome thanks for all the input everyone, it seems motul is the preferred. Going to give it a go.

Looks like its going to be quite hot tomorrow when il be tracking, might make my next few upgrades to the cooling system ASAP.
