Noob question
I should have searched but its much easier to get an answer this way.
Why do people debadge the fr-s and use the toyota emblem? |
Insecure about driving a "Scion" and afraid of what people might think.
|
Really?

My understanding of it is a lot of people are fans of Toyota. The car was dreamed up by Toyota and co-designed by them and Subaru. Since it's Toyota's baby it should have been a Toyota. Even though Scion is a Toyota brand, people don't really care for it. They want a Toyota.

its more JDM i think...

Personal preference really. There are also people that don't like the Scion badge or brand. Plenty of people think the car should've been here as a Toyota and not a Scion. And then others do it because that's just how it's badged in the rest of the world. Similar to how some people in other parts of the world are pulling off their Toyota emblem and sticking on the US/Canada Scion emblem.

Seriously, from reading this forum, it's probably 25% wishing they could have a "real" FT86, 50% embarrassment at having a Scion, and 25% should have bought a better car. |
Yeah I took my Hyundai badge off the trunk of my genesis coupe because Han gave Hyundai a bad name quite publically. What a jerk.
|
TBH, the Toyota badges were shinier.
I like shiny. |

Why does anyone care anyways? People will do what they want. Look at the bently type badges on all the Hyundai's. I don't care. |
So far friends, neighbors, and family have asked once they see the car, "taught you said you bought a Toyota?". I know what I drive so I'm cool with it but I can see how it might affect some owners.

The funny thing is, the DMV in Nevada had my Scion listed on the temporary tag as a Toyota. I don't feel bad driving a Scion, but I have wondered about swapping in some GT 86 fog lights onto my car.
