Getting pulled over for tint..

Got my brz tinted(40% front, 20% back) over this past weekend, and even though it hasn't even been 3 days, I just got pulled over for tint while on a coffee run:sigh:

The cop was nice, but while he was writing my ticket, there were at least 5 other cars that drove by with as dark, if not even darker tint on their front windows than I had:bs:

Now I'm just feeling crappy for wasting money on tinting the front windows, in addition to paying more for the tint removal within the next month. I hate how we can't have the slightest amount of tint on our front windows in Ca

My question now is, should I go back and try to get a lighter tint after getting it removed? Somebody told me shops usually give you a discount for tint removal if you do that.

And if you have tint on your windows, what % are they?

You could live in PA where it's pretty much illegal and a toss up if you get pulled over. I had a black 2011 sonata turbo tinted out. Never had a problem. I have a feeling if I tint my firestorm FRS I will not get the same outcome as the sonata.

Honestly it depends on the car, I had a Hyundai Azera with stupid levels of limo tint, I live in a smaller town and I see the same CHP cops and never a problem. White FR-s...big problem. Sports cars and shitty cars seem to get the brunt. Usually luxury cars get away with it. I may be mistaken though, just speaking from experience. I got a ticket too and I'm getting it removed-signed off-limo re applied (moving to a different city)

damn, that sucks.

it's really up to your own luck though.
my other car has 40% on both front windows for about 6 years now. no ticket what so ever.

All depends on the highway patrol and being at the wrong place at the right time. I believe your allowed to have 35% tint in the front and whatever % in the back. My friend has been pulled over for this but educated the patrol and let him go ;)

IIRC, no tint is allowed for front

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/...t-laws-strict/

Cliff notes:
windows behind driver, no limit
windows in front, "Must allow at least 70% of light to penetrate vehicle"... but every window made nowadays have a light tint because of federal rules.

So as far as CA law is concerned, no tint in the front at all.

I have Crystalline 50% on my fronts and have never had a problem in san diego. On my Si I had a lot darker and was never pulled over for it, I have my windows down most of the time though.

Most tint places will remove it for free. I know the guy who did mine will. Just redo it after. I think it's only a $25 ticket. You got a bored cop or a rookie cop. Most won't just pull you over for tint....

where in CA are you? I have not been pulled over for tint in any of my cars yet, just luck i guess, but def would like to know where it happened to be careful around there :( sorry to hear...you may want to consider the peel n stick clingy stuff if your area police are just strict, you can remove at will and replace

Each and every car I or my wife have owned (6 or 7) has been tinted all around here in CA. We always get the lightest tint on the front side windows (just to help with heat and the uv rays) and we have never been so much as pulled over once for it.

Just go lighter and they'll leave you alone...

Yes, go light. Never a problem and ac works better.

I currently have Huper Optiks 60% front and 20% back with no issues so far *knock on wood*. Although I don't expect any issues because Hupers are so much lighter than other tints. I was going for max heat reflection. I had limo tint all around except for the windshield of my old Prius and got pulled over (expected with the dark tints).

steam your tint off.

Do not pay for the removal.............
