3m spray on protection
Hey guys, tried out a new product from 3m yesterday. It's a spray-on protection film for a car. Sorry no pics, id be embarrassed to show anyway, it seems easy enough. Wash car, wax sections to be coated, mask car, spray on, un mask, let set overnight.
Cons: First problem, this stuff builds up quick on the nozzle so if doing a hood, it'll drip all over it. Second, the spray is not consistent. It looks like someone spray painted the hood. Pros: If spraying the front bumper (or any surface that is parallel to the ground & can is upright) it looks great. Actually looks like it had a great wax job. After removal of a large piece, it was very durable, and like a phone screen protector, a key took a lot of force to break through. Again sorry for not posting pictures, the his looked like cap and didn't think about posting pics for the ugly look. Try it out if you want, maybe you can get better results than me. |
their nozzle sucks for the hood i agree...I took one from a can of plastidip I had in the garage....follow their instructions to the T and you will get better results on the hood. I kinda went to fast on one side got some orange peel and the other side was dang near perfect after slowing down a little and doing 3 passes with the correct speed and distance

Yeah, I would like to see a professional spray on system, that way I could use my spray guns and adjust the tip size for better coverage, but waiting on word back from 3m.

Theres another thread about this...did you spray it on cold LIKE no heat to the hood?
|
The temp of the hood doesn't matter, 3m recommended to have heat to cure faster, the issue was with the nozzle size and it not spraying evenly.....
|
FALSE. Read the brochure the car should be inside and off for 8 hours. Orange peel is caused by heat from the motor or the hood just being hot in general. The heat will CURE it faster but it must be dry first. If you try and paint a hot object its not going to have a nice finish...try it out.
