Thunderhill Trackday: spinout again

Scorching day at Thunderhill this past Saturday. Ambient Temps hit 106F. Getting some traction became difficult with the high temps, but it was still a blast. The car had no issues all day long while others were overheating like mad. Logs showed that my coolant temps NEVER went over 200F and my max coolant temp was 198F. I've got 3700 miles and 3 track days on my mobil 1 5w-30 oil, so I will send off to blackstone at this point to see how it is coming along.

Very impressive showing of BRZs/FRSs. I think there were a total of seven there that day. There was me, @Doborder, @RehabJeff86, and I got a chance to meet @oofie and @garfull. It was Garfull's first track day, so I gave him a ride in my car to show him some basics. Oofie had a big improvement in his lap times from his last event, so congrats are in order to him. I was only able to muster 2:20 running the crows nest. Theoretical best lap was 2:19. Was hoping to squeak out 2:18, but I'll make excuses and blame the weather?

Here's a compilation video. Highlights are an embarrassingly slow Viper ACR ownder (I've only personally seen one Viper ACR owner actually able to drive their car) and another spinout with Garfull in the passenger seat (sorry, man! LOL). I kept full throttle down this time, but not enough countersteer I guess. I need to learn how to actually move my hands on the steering wheel. :bonk:

What system is that that matches all three cameras and puts in the sweet gauge OSD?

LeeMaster 07-01-2013 12:31 PM

orthojoe what video program did you use to be able to put 3 different videos into one single view?

It was a great event, i think my tires are starting to heat cycling out plus the hot temp, they r just not grabbing anymore hahaaha

Definitely a great event. I was out there as well, unfortunately not in the BRZ (waiting for DI seal fix). Was in a Miata R in Open Group.

Glad to see a lot of FRS/BRZ's out there.

Where is your camera placed on the outside of your car? Trying to see if it was a late entry into 8th, but I can't really tell from the camera position. It seems from the rear camera that the entry may have been a tad late, but I could be wrong. Try taking 8 real early, this helps keep the car straight and provides plenty of room to track-out. You can carry a ton of speed by doing this and letting the car track itself out all the way to the edge of the blue. Just make sure you pull in before the end of the blue :) Or else your suspension will eat it!

Great driving, none-the-less!

What corner did you spin on? I'm guessing the right turn before the loeft that takes you up and over.

Looks like turn 8, sweeping high-speed left.

How many runs were you able to get on Sunday? Do you know how many total laps you have done over the weekend? :w00t:

Nice videos! The heat was brutal on your tires!

I don't think I am going back to Thill till sept. The heat is just killer!

BRZnut 07-01-2013 10:54 PM

Wow great videos! Felt like I was in the back seat with you!

I was thinking about somehow hacking up a tube that takes ac air into my shirt and pants. It would make a trackday far nicer.
