Dealers Fairy Tales - No BS! :)

Would it be useful to start collecting dealers stories and 'secrets' passed onto 'forumnites' at pre-orders and actual negotiations? How far will they go trying to get your business? :)

No BS - just what dealers told you 'word by word'. So far I have 4 great ones for you!

Myth #1

Subaru GT300 STi was downgraded by aprox 70 bhp to stay within GT300 competition and NOT to become absolute dominator in the class. No BS! :) Dealer saw secret video!

Myth #2

I've been offered to pre-order my BRZ out of THREE trims: Standard, Premium and Limited! No BS! :) I should have pre-ordered Standard just for fun of it.

Myth #3

Don't tell this to anyone! :) Subaru will release the entire lineup of BRZs: BRZ Standard (as we know it today), BRZ WRX, BRZ WRX STi by 2015-2016. No BS!

Myth #4

There will be only 1,000 BRZs for US market (not 5,000, 3,500 or 3,000) for 2012 production year. No BS! We expected more, but lucky to get 1,000!

Enjoy.

Actually there is some truth to the rumor that the new ('14/'15?) WRX/STI will be based off the BRZ platform. Suppose to go smaller and lighter.

Every fairy tale have some truth to it. Collection of those will be fun to read lets say a year from now :)

What else have you been told 'in private'?

heard something along those lines. Something about a possible 2 door wrx sti. But not sure how legitimate the source was.

Yeah possible 2 door coupe and even a 3 door hatch for what I have heard. They are still in the design stage so probably won't get more info until later in the year when maybe a mule is spotted?

3 door STI would be hot. I'd sell the BRZ for that.

You guys weren't cheap-asses, and ordered the Gunma Plant delivery option, right? It was only $1500.00 and included freight back to the US in a padded container ship! It also pays for a week's worth of hotel vouchers as you tour Japan in a JDM spec car while Subaru puts the finishing touches on your car.

I think they are beyond the design stage. These cars are coming out in less than a year. But if it's really going to 2014/15 model year for the next WRX\STI then yeah nothing is finalized yet. I really hope there is a coupe. A poor mans GTR!

They are not past the design stage. Subaru delegates were meeting in Japan just last week to decide if they would keep the same rally DNA as before or try to take on BMW M/MB AMG with the new car. So no, they are not beyond the design stage.

Quote:

Subaru is currently plotting the future of the next-generation WRX STI. Company delegates from various world markets are currently headed to Japan to decide whether the rally bruiser will continue to be a hardcore racer straight from the factory or if it will head in a new, somewhat posher direction. According to GoAuto.com (and previous reports), the new STI will be significantly different from the base Impreza and WRX, and that difference may translate into a more upscale performance model. Think something along the lines of a BMW M or a Mercedes-Benz AMG machine.

Regardless of which direction the model takes, odds are we can expect to see a turbocharged version of the new 2.0-liter dual-overhead cam boxer four-cylinder currently found in the Forester. Nick Senior, Subaru Australia Managing Director, has been quoted as saying the engine is compatible with forced inductions, countering earlier reports.

While Senior says he hopes the STI will continue to be a rally thoroughbred, his vote only counts for so much. Australia is the fourth-largest Subaru market behind the U.S., Japan and China.

Earliest we will see it is end of calendar year '13 as a '14 model (18 months from now) or possibly Spring/Summer of '14 as a '15 model if things get delayed/take longer than expected.

Yeah, I remember reading that article about them considering trying to take on the M with a posher subaru. I'll be sorely disappointed if they do, if they want a performance luxury subaru why don't they work on the performance of the 3.6 Legacy?

powertrip 03-06-2012 10:14 PM

I heard back on one today, according to them there will be only 600 made for the US market...

Gotta love their spin on the facts.
