No-drill tunk hook install

Having replaced my grocery getter with the BRZ, it didn't take long for me to feel the need to add more grocery getting prowess to my new car. I had seen the trunk hook mod done here before, but didn't like the idea of drilling into my trunk. I found some parts at OSH to make a custom bracket that fits into the holes already there.

Parts:

1. VW trunk hook. I got mine on eBay and it came with mounting hardware:

2. Stanley 5" x 5/8" metal brace from OSH. The holes in it line up almost perfectly with the VW hook mounting points. (web link: http://www.osh.com/eng/product/natio...e_zinc/6845085)

3. Sliding closet door guide risers to act as a gasket between the hook and the trunk. The mounting holes in the hook are raised and will wiggle without something in between to make it snug.

Steps:
1. cut down one of the closet guide risers to fit between the mounting holes in the hook

2. attach the screw fasteners to the metal bracket

3. It was a terrible angle and I did this in the dark, so I don't have any good pictures, but now all you need to do is pass the metal bracket through the cutouts at the edge of the upper trunk lid and screw in the new hook to the bracket with the nylon closet riser in between for a tight fit.

Thanks for doing this. I have been wanting to do this, but didn't want drill any holes. Are you by chance an engineer?

I did something a little different. See post #9 here

Got a a link for Stanley 5" x 5/8" metal bracket? Not sure what OSH is...

@BRZNutt - Sort of. I like to tinker with things.
@Zgrinch- OSH is a hardware store. Found a link for it online: http://www.osh.com/eng/product/natio...e_zinc/6845085

Great write up OP, but what's wrong with paper bags? :iono:

Is this just for closing the trunk? If so, then I'm wondering why others see this as needed compared to just ensuring you put your hand on your license plate? Just a preference?

No, you use it to hang grocery bags so they don't roll around and make a mess. Its attached under the rear deck, not the trunk lid. Hence "grocery getting prowess"...

Cool, thanks for clarifying... Never knew anything like this existed! :)

Bravo sir, bravo!

Nice creation, I like when people think outside of the box. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to super glue a magnet to one of these grocery hooks and it will stick to the deck. Removable too.

Simple yet efficient :D
