Wow. (I would say more, but I think that sums it up nicely)

serialk11r 06-28-2013 06:17 PM

That rev limit sounds like 11k ish...my jaw dropped when I listened to it.

GTB/ZR-1 06-28-2013 08:02 PM

Lets see... WANT!

OrbitalEllipses 06-28-2013 08:05 PM

I thought the C-X75 was squashed? At least that's what was reported several months ago. Only a handful of prototypes were made.

Maybe there is an old/new boy in the hybrid hypercar segment. If it can keep up with the other 3(not counting the NSX) then i say hell yes.

For some reason i'm doubting the reliability of that 1.6, being that its so highly strung.

Dead as of the end of last year...too bad, a 1.6L twin-charged 4 pot spinning to 10K sounds like sex.

rice_classic 06-28-2013 09:11 PM

While the 1.6 is pretty amazing, I still the original was better where the 4 wheels were driven by electric motors and the car used twin micro turbines as generators.

Yup.. Twin Freakin' Micro turbines and the car put down over 1000hp with the 4 electric motors.

Turbines are likely too noisy for street use lol. Not exhaust, but intake noise is basically impossible to cover up.
@Trashed675 Yea I doubt the reliability of a boosted 11k rpm engine, but then again they probably have titanium-everything-moving and motorcycles that spin faster don't.

I never gave the intake noise the consideration.

For the audience following along... Here's the original concept with the dual micro turbines. The original C-X75 concept:

It is all related to F1. Ferrari threatened to quite F1 if the engines would be 4 cylinders, so the regulations changed and the engines to be used had to be V6. Williams was originally going to get the 1.6l I4 built by Cosworth, but due to regulation changes and the financial incapacity for Cosworth to build a new F1 engine according to the new regulations, Williams changed supplier and is now getting the 1.6l V6 Renault Sport engines for their 2014 F1 cars. As the Jaguar C-X75 was co-developed by Williams, Williams they took that redundant 1.6l I4 engine built by Cosworth, that would anyway have no more use in any car.

In short the Jaguar C-X75 engine is a 100% F1 engine built by Cosworth. In the C-X75 it is detuned, in F1 spec it makes more than 700 PS and has 15.000 RPM redline.

Makes one wonder what the longevity of that 1.6 would be...

It is all in the machining, the tolerance, the lubricant used, and the most importantly...the metal material. You wouldnt know what they put in building it. But if it was for extensive F1 usage....it has to be very very reliable...to win the race

Beautiful. Exciting. Everything a concept should be.

Edit: And I cringe at it's complexities.
