Another airl filter thread, sorry LOL

Where do you guys rate the following as far as the categories that the K and N is so good at (ie throttle response). Just want to try something different and something non-oiled. FITMENT SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED. I do not want to remove the airbox.

Cosworth
AFE DRY
Apexi
Zeta (stage 1 and 2).

Dont care about HP or sound really that much, just want my automatic to open up a little bit. K and N seems to be the consensus for making our automatics "quicker", but does something come in a dry filter that will give that same feeling on my butt dyno as far as the RPM range and throttle response. some of the above only claim a 3% higher flow rate than factory, that was my concern.

All of these air filter threads give me a headache. Good thing I've got sugar pills.

2. Click "Add to Cart"

3. Pay with Paypal.

4. Enjoy the new high flowing filter

I'm running a Perrin inlet tube and HKS drop-in (picked up from FT86 S.F.).

For the love of God though, do a search....

BlackyRose 06-28-2013 12:53 PM

Thanks everyone but I have done a search and read many threads. I believe I have asked a question that is unique and new, as I am looking for a consensus through others' experience of what may be close to the k and n as far as flow capabilities. I have listed several choices in hopes that 10-15 people can select from those from personal experience as far as fitment and flow capabilities.

THIS IS NOT A THREAD ASKING FOR HP DYNO NUMBERS OR OVER-OILING QUESTIONS OR WHAT IS THE BEST AIR FILTER.

It is simply a poll thread comparing several dry flow filters I have listed and it specifies and asks for specific criteria.

I understand K and N is well liked, I dont dispute that. I was looking for the next choice, specifically from one of the ones I listed in my original post.

I really think youre looking too far into this. After our PM's a few days back, i figured you were sold on a specific filter.

As I stated before, they all do the same thing. Find what is cheapest that suits your needs. I found that K&N works perfect for me

I fixed it for you. I would say buy any since you don't care about HP/sound/etc, but then again, maybe do more research since you are worried about flow, which means you *obviously* do care about HP. Are you sure what you are asking?

Getting back to my interpretation of your question, my HKS is a dry filter. Unfortunately I did filter, inlet tube, and crank pulley all at the same time, so while I noticed a bit of extra scoot, I can't tell you how much came from what. As far as fit, the HKS fit very well into the stock air-box, but I had it out of the car since I was doing the previously mentioned other items at the same time.

Best of luck.

Flow = better throttle response
Better throttle response doesnt always = more horsepower

+1

Flow is significantly better as seen below:

Easy to clean, flows very well, all made in the U.S. As well (Corona, CA). Has a bump seal to insure a tight fit without leaking as well. They really overengineered this filter, but that's great for us since it's inexpensive as well. :party0030:

Over thinking a drop in air filter doesn't always = a constructive use of time.
Have you considered just going WOT every time you use the gas pedal? Would save you money, especially since you don't care about net HP. Why even bother with the filter?

I would consider the light crank pulley with whatever filter you end up choosing. Seems like it would compliment what you are looking for.
