Best Drives in the Mid-Atlantic

While I don't expect my BRZ to arrive until sometime in June, it's never too early to get a head start on stockpiling a list of the best drives/roads/routes in the area. I'm a recent arrival to the mid-Atlantic area, so my knowledge is close to naught. I'd be happy to keep this post updated much like Zaku's wonderful BRZ ordering thread. What say you, fellow right coasters? Like the idea?

Bit of a hike, but skyline drive and blue ridge parkway once you get far enough south.

Near skyline drive is rt 211, more fun than Skyline Drive imho, some crazy banked corners up and down the mountain. Also some good roads around Sugarloaf mountain in MD

I'm heading south tomorrow morning, going Skyline Drive, down Afton Mountain, eventually back up over Brents mountain. Will be my first experience with the car in real curves, and i can't wait.

I've got a pretty good list of roads I drive in MD in my Z.

I'll be happy to post them tonight or tomorrow. :D

I absolutely agree. It is fantastic!

For good measure, here's my Dragon vid from Zdayz last month.

Here are a few of my favorite roads in Maryland.

1. The Roads Around Frederick

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=N+...ia=10&t=h&z=11

This is a small sampling of the beautiful farm and mountain roads in this area. Highly recommended. Long straights, nice turns, swooping hills. All around good times.

2. Loch Raven Drive

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Lo...sz=14&t=h&z=13

This quick hitter is amazing fun. Drive it during the week, as it is partially closed on weekends. Fantastic curves, scenic views, right off the highway. But, beware that there is a lot of human and deer traffic in this area.

3. Falls Rd to Prettyboy Dam

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=MD...4&via=1,2&z=12

This can be easily added onto the end of the Loch Raven run. Falls road is a gorgeous back road through farm country. The roads around Prettyboy are intense. They're a bit choppy, but there are long, sweeping turns and switchbacks, and a few nice places to take photos.

4. Race Rd to River Rd

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=MD...a=1,2,3,4&z=13

Video: http://youtu.be/qkVRy0qS_pI

Alternate: Can switch out parts of Race Road for parts of Ridge Road

Pretty fun, cut up by busy connecting roads. Thin, hilly roads. Great alternative to the highways going from Jessup to BWI.

5. Waugh Chapel to North Beach

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=St...ia=1,2,10&z=11

Stunning back roads

Here

sidswiftsteel 10-23-2013 05:26 PM

Thanks for the bump!

#2 & #3 near my work (Lutherville). I've driven the Loch Raven Dr many times over the years for fun, although I'd prefer the westerly path.

#4 & #5 are near my home (Pasadena)

:thanks:

@kanundrum Thanks dude this thread is exactly what I had in mind.

I had posted Conowingo, that's a pretty good drive. Also, there's a great set of roads following along 70W towards Frederick.

I'll definitely try out some of the previous posts, all of these will make for some excellent down time. :w00t:
