I finally understand what everyone on this site means now!
 

In the past couple of months I purchased a 2006 G35 coupe Sport, a car that I liked since 2003. I traded my RSX for it and now I am living with major regrets!

1. Tires on my car is ridiculously priced
2. I can't really utilize the power on the streets
3. Feels heavy like a mofo!
4. Gas mileage is terrible but the worst part is the gas guage drops faster than the actual mileage(for instance my car was on E with 40% of gas remaining in the tank!!)
5. I always said I hated 4 cylinders but living with a 6 cylinder is worst!


To you guys thinking about the more powerful cars over the FRS/BRZ, keep your car. Bigger coupes is pieces of shit IMHO now. I miss the lightweight feel and agility of a 2800 lb coupe even with a torqueless engine. I finally see what some of the folks on here have been saying since I joined.

Thanks for sharing and being honest. I know exactly where you are coming from. Can you sell the car and get into a twin? I suspect you would lose little since it is used and you have not owned it long.

Oh most definitely that's my plan now. It's fully loaded with everything and 45k miles so it will be axed very soon.

The G35 is still a good car...

I wouldn't Trade in at a loss for a new twin. I'd search far and wide for a used twin and pick it up at the depreciated value.

6 -8 thousand depreciation for driving off the lot is no fun! Plus then OP could probably make a fairly straight up trade depending on the year of his nissan.

Well, being honest back:
- Coming from a 2013 2.0T Genesis Coupe you will definitely notice the torque dip. It is very apparent. The FR-S/BRZ makes good torque prior to the dip and pulls strong between 5-7K (not Vtech strong mind you). So you have to learn to drive around the dip to get the most from the car. But, it is actually fun :)
- The manual shifter is a dream. Coming from your Acura, it should be every bit as good.
- Handling is night and day better than the Gencoupe. The low center of gravity is the key with this car IMHO.
- The driving position in this car is so much better than any car I drove in the price range. It fits me like a glove and is just so intuitive.
- Gas mileage is awesome. I am super happy with what I am getting. I have been driving the car mostly city (I would say 80%) and have been driving spirited and am getting right around 25mpg. I was lucky to get 20mpg in the Gencoupe in similar driving conditions. I think once the car is broken in and I mix more highway in there, I will be getting 27-28mpg.


There is not much I am not liking about the car at this point except maybe the radio. I still think the car needs more power/torque but considering this is mostly a fun commuter car it works. At some point I might address it with aftermarket, but I am under warranty and really enjoying the car so I will wait.

I have not regretted trading in the Gencoupe for it for a single second. Power and torque be damned, this car is such a better drivers car and is so much more responsive I could not go back. The BRZ shifter is light years better than the vague Hyundai shifter and the BRZ feels so much lighter and nimble. You truly feel like you a are driving a sports car vs a sedan that has a big engine and some suspension tweaks.

As most of us daily driver the 86 is a car you can drive 100% most the time without really going way past speed limit and yet still get great mpg ... Has enough power to get that addiction drifting going..

This car could use 30/50 extra HP to give it that little extra kick.. But after all this is a tuner car. With custom tune /exhaust /intake ect.. You can squeeze the most out the motor without putting turbo/super..

Yeah having a powerful car on the street is not that fun when you can't use that power. only on tracks..


I drove a G35 and I know what you mean..its fast and has power also feels planted on the ground due to its heavy but when you drive a 86 you can feel all sorts of feed back on what the car is doing .. That's what makes this car a drivers car..

My bro-in-law has a G35, as does one of my friends. I've driven them a couple of times. They're definitely heavy, but they've got that luxury-sport coupe feel down (very similar to the BMW 3 series).

Personally I like them, but if you're comparing them to an FR-S (or even your old RSX), they'll definitely feel porky and like they're draining your wallet on consumables. If you're looking for that nimble/lightweight feel, consider the Miata, FR-S/BRZ, Civic Si, RX-8, and S2000 for your next car.

You won't come any where close to loosing 6 - 8 K driving one of the twins off the lot. Used FR-S's in my area are selling for as much if not more than new ones are. I guess I should say they're asking as much if not more. I'm willing to bet they don't negotiate down 6 - 8 K.

No, you finally don't understand what these people mean here, and still don't.

When any CUV or VAN have the power to PASS YOU at the Merging Entrance into the Highway....your car SUCKS. This will never happen to a G35.

LOL, not this again. I own a 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring with the 6 speed transmission. I promise you, it is not going to pass my BRZ anywhere. And especially not between 30-60mph.

Within a 100 mile radius of the Twin Cities there are exactly three used FR-S for sale and zero used BRZ's (per Autotrader).

The three used FR-S are going between high 23K to high 24K. Now I am sure there is some wiggle room on price, but I doubt you will get it below $22K. Still that is about a $3K savings over new and I believe the warranty transfers?
