Vette-Powered BRZ by Weapons Grade

Didn't see this on the forums yet, thought it was pretty neat!

There are several before, during and after threads. But the search function won't allow three letter words like GTO, WGP or BRZ.

This is a GTO lump in a BRZ. It was at Wicked Big Meet most recently.

I wonder what the difference in weight is? I can't even imagine what the driving characteristics of this car would be! Install looks very professional though, props!

I'd imagine you might as well grease up your tires for the same effect lol.

Normally I don't give a flying fornication about corvettes, but holy crap I wanna see what that can do!

As much as I get tired of Chevy fan boys saying LS motors are the best ever, they do run pretty strong for the most part.

tnt 06-25-2013 07:11 PM

sweet !

DriftZen 06-25-2013 07:25 PM

I saw this a while back. Looks very cool, I remember reading the kits would range from ~$4k for a basic kit to ~$9k for an upgraded kit (with cooling, etc.) for track days.

Can't say I'm not interested ;)

LS motors definitely are the best ever.

...Best lightweight, cheap(ish), v8 swap, for those of us in USA at least. Not to mention bulletproof.

I read it only adds ~60lbs. of weight and the people that drove it said it doesn't mess with the cornering dynamics (other than a shit ton of extra power).

Here's some more details I found of the kit (this is the original post I saw): http://www.reddit.com/r/cars/comment...ed_subaru_brz/

needs a windshield decal that says:
'ASHAMED OF BOXER'

BlaineWasHere 06-25-2013 09:08 PM

I pretty much hate all American cars but even I can admit the LSx motors are pretty much the best things since sliced bread. For it's size it's really really light! If 'Murica can get something right it's a goddamned powerplant.

BRZ283 06-25-2013 09:19 PM

Brz v8 swap!

Yes please! I would love to do this! :bonk:

Deep Six 06-25-2013 10:23 PM

The 9 large does not include the motor or a tremec 6060

Curb weight up to about 3050 lbs, give or take a few. Weight distribution pushed to 56/44, from stock 53/47. HP is over double, and torque is tripled over stock.

That's heavier than I would have thought. Vettes don't weigh much more and already have the LSx attached!

infanterene 06-26-2013 12:24 AM

Turbo kits add weight too. The turbo is usually mounted in front of the engine as is the intercooler. Im pretty sure the weight and balance difference between this and a turbo car is not that big.

The innovative SC kit weight around 50lbs. When the come out with the Water/air intercooler the weight will go up.

I don't think the weight is a big deal. If I could afford this swap I would do it in a heart beat. Im going FA20 club turbo instead and Im sure I will be happy.

DriftZen 06-29-2013 03:14 PM

Yea honestly it looks really good. Look how flush it sits in that engine bay, really surprised me!

I would pay to ride in one of these monsters

Symmetrical 06-29-2013 05:34 PM

This is cool and all, but I'd rather just buy a real Corvette.

Agreed. I don't know exactly what the attraction is. It's not really any cheaper than a Corvette, all-in, and it's not significantly lighter.

If you were, say, given a free BRZ to start, well, that's different!

Diode Dynamics 07-02-2013 10:46 AM

I wonder how much Crawford charges for a full engine build on the FA20. Apparently the owner has a fully built BRZ as his daily driver and says the FA20 produces bigger gains with boost than most other boxer engines. I attached the link to Matt Farah's review

Impressive numbers

Alabang 86 07-02-2013 11:28 AM

that's awesome

Diode Dynamics 07-02-2013 12:10 PM

I like Matt Farah's reviews, I think he gives a good, honest opinion about the cars he's driving. He doesn't let the thrills of the car cloud his judgement about the other factors in a review, like the street-driving ability etc..

Has anyone ordered from Weapons Grade lately? I remember seeing some sketchy stuff about the harnesses offered for this kit a few months back...

SON1C 04-27-2015 02:34 AM

Thought this was a great deal until I realized it didn't include the engine or tranny lol

I think you could yank the aluminum LS and tranny out of an old 98-02 wrecked Camaro SS for pretty cheap. You could just upgrade the LS from there over time. Its unfair how much power even small bolt ons add to those engines. That, and they are bulletproof.
