Trunk Hook Installed!

I know, a trunk hook, wtf is that? Why should we be impressed? Well you shouldn't, a trunk hook is a ridiculously easy modification to make the BRZ a marginally better grocery-getter. The hook itself literally requires you to drill two holes and run two bolts through it to install, simple right? It should have been but I'm an idiot so heres what happened.

At first I heard about the hook on these forums and I thought cool, less than $10 mod, seems helpful for trunking groceries, lets do it. I order the hook, it shows up and I realize I dont have a drill motor... I call my Dad up, two weeks later he shows up with the drill and we knock out some holes. Trouble... We drilled the holes too far in from the lip so the nuts and bolts that came with the product are useless. The hook came with some framed nuts that slide along the lip of the trunk only we cut too deep so they didn't reach.

Now flash forward a few months, I've totally forgotten about this and my Dad hands me a pouch with some nuts and bolts, oh shit! Now a few weeks after that- I finally have time and go to install it. It takes me 90min to screw in two bolts... 90 fucking minutes. Tiny trunk, big person, not very dexterous hands, I kept dropping stuff and couldn't get it to line up...Any fucking way... I got it in with a little creative brute force, didn't damage the car, and the worlds simplest and cheapest mod is finally done, six months later. Haha

HAHA potentially the world record for the longest easiest(hardest) install ever?

I really want a trunk hook in ALL of my cars, just to make the drive home from the grocery store less messy. Looks like you did a good job installing it though, have you had a chance to use it yet?

Thanks,
Rick

Had one of these in my GLI. Should have taken it out when I traded the car in for the BRZ. Very handy item. Makes carrying grocery bags much nicer when you want to take corners fast...I just don't know if I can drill my Subaru and install a VW part. Seems just wrong.

It's clearly retardation.

I thought this was an awesome story! Lol

I had to Google "trunk hook". I thought it was to secure a trunk monkey or dead hooker. I would not drill holes in my car to install that.

Yeah, I usually bring my own bags which tend to have longer handles than the plastic ones and I've done some dampening to the trunk floor plus the cargo tray. The hook is designed so the bags hang, mine sit on the ground and the hook prevents them from dipping over, still very nice.

Should have included this link, that's how I originally found out. It's really not that scary at all, you're drilling through a maintenance hole support not the whole trunk.
