Placate me a bit? (Calm me down)
 

Hey everyone

I just got my FR-S last week and so far I love it, but I'm having a problem of sorts.

I'm a really nervous guy, always have been, and before I got the car I spent a lot of time reading up on all the problems people have had. In fact I still do that pretty frequently.


I'm still in my break-in period, currently at around 550 miles. I've noticed slight RPM dip but no real shudders and never below 500 RPM so I think this is normal, since normal idle is ~650 and we all know the compressor draws power for the A/C which can cause dips.

I also noticed that I get the 'crickets' noise, but only occasionally. I've only heard it like 2-3 times so far.


TLDR: There's probably nothing wrong with my car, but I'm a panicky kind of guy and I sometimes I worry that I'm going to get catastrophic engine failure out of the blue or something.

So If you can, throw statistics at me to make me feel like I'm being stupid. Or just say something encouraging lol. I legitimately love this car and I DON'T regret it as a purchase. I'm just a worrywart. :bonk: :iono:

Every 86 in houston that I've seen in person has these quirks (over 50).

You mean these quirks are normal and not a sign of anything serious? Or is it all still somewhat of a mystery?

Everyone's car has These issues. Nothing to worry about.

However, Toyota does need to fix the crickets as its just not pleasant to listen to. But your car won't blow up.

your fine, all is normal....the crickets will eventually become consistent. don't bother with getting the pump swapped until they have a new pump. not the same one that will give you the chirps again.

the dips you are seeing at idle are perfectly normal for this car. Trust me I'm # 81 in the cel club

I was paying too much attention to these kind of things, but realized that you can't live your life like that. Just keep driving it, don't ignore obvious problems, bring up the issues at a dealer. We got new cars, it has warranty that we paid for, so I expect a reasonable service when something breaks. It is good idea to be aware about quirks or possible problems, but no reason to get obsessed with it.
This is my first Toyota (err Subaru), a lot people swear by them. If this car really ruins my day-to-day life, I think this may be the last of Toyota/Subaru cars for me. Maybe not the best car to go off, but after all Toyota put their name behind it, so I expect it to be no worse then their other cars.

Oh, I reckon your car’s engine is still limbering up.

I suggest youjust go out and drive it. If after 1,000 miles, you still are concerned,come on back .... :)

No worries. Under warranty, correct? As far as I can tell, the only real "problem" is the fuel pump issue. I have the crickets as well intermittently, but I'm not going to worry about it until it gets really bad. There do not seem to be any actual failures so far. I read the list of complaints people have about this car and wonder. Either their lives must suck really badly or they have it real good. It's an awesome car for what it is. Enjoy.

Look at it this way, if your engine blows you got a warranty to fix it!

Nobody ever posts things like "10k miles and everythings going fantastic" since they're too busy having fun lmao. People only talk about problems so it seems like there's a lot of them.

exactly nothing to worry about. There's been roughly 7500 frs sold this year and as a high number we will say 50 engines were replaced, that is .66% I think most companies would be ok with that number of issues. So you have nothing to worry about, just drive and have fun, theres a lot of people on here with 20k+ miles on the car and no issues.

Dont worry, there is a very very small percentage of people who had any major problems with their new frs/brz and the ones that did had no problems getting parts replaced or fixed
