WTH is this behind both doors?!
3 Attachment(s)
Why does it look like I have a million tiny scratches behind both doors/in front of the rear tires?! *I literally just washed the car* From the number "dings", this seems to be where every rock on the rock hits. Maybe it's a paint defect? I have mudguards and everything. Someone help me please :mad0260:

It's not road line paint like I originally thought at first glance either

how many highway miles and total miles do you have on car. Can you tell if its dirt/paint or actual chips. Those would qualify as chips not scratches. if you do not have a clay bar or lacquer thinner try rubbing goo gone , wd 40, or gasoline see if that removes the spots. If you rub you finger nail past areas does it make a sound. just trying to determine if these are chips or not. to fix have bodyshop repaint and add 3m bra to that area

it almost looks like road rash.

looks like road rash from debris being kicked off from the front tire.
STIs have clear bra material on that section, i'm surprise the twins dosen't |
Can't tell you how many paint chips I've covered up in that area.

My less than scientific logic says you shouldn't even be getting chips there. The most road debris thrown off from the wheels goes behind the wheel. And that area is almost too far from the front wheels. You'd have a lot more damage closer to the front wheels also if it was from them.
Could debris be hitting your rear mudguards and bouncing off in this direction? That's seems unlikely but is the only thing I can think of. Either that or you do most of your driving in reverse. Good luck with this - I've never seen chips in this area myself. All mine are directly behind the wheels. I don't even have mud guards and none of them are this bad. |

I have 10000 miles and no chips in this area :( sorry bud |
You guys should see mine lol. Hence why 911 has oem clearbra like material on rear quarter panels

My car has this as well, though not as bad. I've only driven in rain once, a bit of snow as well.
I think it all came from staying on the right most line of the road going down the highway. I was trying to avoid other traffic throwing crap at me, but the passenger side is noticeably worse than the driver side. I have mud guards as well. Even with those, I think this is just sand flung from the front tires. It sucks but it is what it is. I will be compounding mine down to see if I can make it look better but some of the chips are definitely deeper than the opti/clear/pigment layers. |
It looks like you have aftermarket wheels and tires, yes? How much does your front tire stick out relative to the back of the front wheel well?? When I put on my auto-x wheels and tires I get a TON of stuff kicked all the way back to that location, but they are only on for a few hours once or twice a month.
